Synopsis for "Death's Greatest Hits"

After the vessel in which he was traveling was destroyed, Doctor Strange awakens in a dark void to find himself facing Death who tells him that it intends to prevent Galactus from reconstituting himself and helping its twin, Eternity. Strange responds with a mystical attack on Death that severely weakens him but proves futile, and he is then immobilized by Death who announces that it plans to personally escort him to its realm as soon as he releases his last finger-hold upon life and surrenders to it. When Strange remains defiant, Death forces him to relive the deaths of his sister, parents and brother. After reliving these traumas, Strange is on the verge of surrendering when he recalls the car accident that ended his surgical career, but not his life. because it wasn't his time. Realizing that it isn't his time now either, Strange regains his will to live and uses his magic to help Galactus reconstitute himself. Death admits that Strange's mystic aura and sheer will power has been helping hold Galactus together long enough for him to use his full power to restore himself. No longer able to persuade Strange to die, Death is forced to take direct action against Strange but its attack fails because, as Strange now remembers, he had died once before and been reborn, and ever since then his life has been touched by Eternity and he would never again fear death. Thwarted, Death allows Strange to return to the starship which Galactus has reconstructed and awaken within it. When he hears the Silver Surfer and Nova speculate that it must have been the power of Galactus that saved and reassembled them, Strange merely smiles and doesn't bother to correct them.
