History
Deathgrip was a former member of the crime syndicate The Organization. He traveled to Denver to seek either help or revenge on Captain Marvel, who he thought was former Organization member Walter Lawson in disguise, in reality, Mar-Vell had only borrowed his identity and was unable to help him. Lawson created a weapon called the Eon Ray, which exploded when Captain Marvel destroyed their base, and the ionic reactors in the underground base exploded. The explosion mutated Deathgrip into a vampiric being, that was able to drain vitality and life from his victims.[1]
Deathgrip almost sapped all the power and energy from Captain Marvel. Deathgrip ran into Jacqueline Carr's Observatory and took the people hostage, he threatening to kill them if Captain Marvel didn't provide a cure within 48 hours. Captain Marvel flew to the buried base of The Organization to find a solution, he only found the Eon Ray. He also asked Tony Stark and Hank Pym for aid, Stark managed to repair the gun but nothing else, he argued he would need months, not just two days. In the end, Captain Marvel rescued the hostages and Deathgrip tried to reverse the effects by shooting himself with the Eon Ray, only it killed him instead.[2]Attributes
Powers
He had the power to drain someone's vitality through touch and was able to absorb Captain Marvel's photon blasts.[3]
