The Dark Realm was the subterranean realm where the Fomorians were birthed.[1] An entrance to the Dark Realm is located on the northwest coast of the isle of Tír na nÓg in Otherworld.[2]
History
According to ancient myths, the first generation of Fomorians originated from the mating the warrior-king Conand with Domnu, the primordial Earth Mother.[1] The Dark Realm had the appearance of a cave, with a magical mirror emerging from the ground, through which the Fomorians were able to teleport themselves.[3] Whether the Dark Realm is truly beneath Tír na nÓg’s surface or a dimension in its own right remains unrevealed.[4]
Circa 2300 BC, Conand led his progeny out of the Dark Realm and, through an interdimensional nexus, to Earth, where they settled on the Island of the Tower of Glass (Tory Island, off the coast of Ireland's Donegal coast), where they were worshiped by the Fir Bolg people who inhabited the mainland of Ireland.[1]
Circa 1896 BC, the Tuatha de Danaan followed the Fomorians and settled in Ireland, wrestling the control of the land from the Fir Bolg. After the tyrannical rule of the Fomorian/Danaan hybrid Bres over the Tuatha de Danaan, his deposing, and their defeat at the Second Battle of Mag Tuired, the Fomorians retreated to the Dark Realm.[1]Residents
