In 1990, Dan Buckley was employed by Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc. in a series of different operations, including marketing and international publishing, reaching the title of Vice President, Marketing Services in 1997, when he left the company to join Omnicom's Radiate Group, Inc.[2]
Marvel Enterprises[]
On October 1, 1998, Toy Biz, Inc., a toy designer company owned by Isaac Perlmutter and Avi Arad, acquired Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc. and renamed itself Marvel Enterprises, Inc..[3] On October 14, 2003, Buckley was hired as Publisher, Marvel Publishing Division replacing Bill Jemas, former President of Publishing, Licensing & New Media since February 14, 2000 and Chief Operating Officer since January 13, 2002, who transitioned into the non-executive role of Chief Marketing Officer.[2]
Marvel Entertainment[]
Marvel Enterprises, Inc. renamed itself Marvel Entertainment, Inc. on September 16, 2005, after successfully closing a deal to finance its own movie slate.[4] The company's Publishing Division was then incorporated as Marvel Publishing, Inc. on October 03, 2005, with Buckley continuing to serve as Publisher of the newly formed subsidiary.[5]
On March 26, 2007 Alan Fine, President & Chief Executive Officer of Marvel Publishing, Inc. and Toy Biz Division was promoted to Chief Executive Officer, Marvel Toys & Publishing Divisions and Executive Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer, Marvel Characters, Inc.[6] As a consequence, Buckley was named President of Marvel Publishing, Inc., adding President of Publishing - Print & Digital Media to his Publisher title.[7]
At some point between 2007 and 2008, Marvel Studios, Inc. formed a Creative Committee to oversee creative and continuity aspects of the movie production. Buckley joined the committee alongside Alan Fine, who served as its Chairman,[8] writer Brian Michael Bendis, Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada[9] and Marvel Entertainment's Board member Sid Ganis.[10]
At the request of Marvel Entertainment's Chief Executive Officer Ike Perlmutter and senior executive Alan Fine, Buckley became more involved in the company's TV animation efforts,[11] being promoted on April 28, 2009 to Chief Executive Officer and Publisher - Print, Animation & Digital Media.[12] Fine, who passed his role of Chief Executive Officer, Marvel Publishing, Inc. to Dan, was promoted to Executive Vice President, Office of the Chief Executive, Marvel Entertainment, Inc.[8] From this date, Buckley started to be credited as Executive Producer of Marvel Animation's television series.
The Walt Disney Company[]
On December 31, 2009, Marvel Entertainment, Inc. was acquired by The Walt Disney Company. Marvel was merged into a subsidiary of Disney, Maverick Merger Sub LLC., which was then renamed Marvel Entertainment, LLC., remaining only as an holding company while all the business operations were transferred to the Marvel Publishing, Inc. subsidiary,[13] which was renamed Marvel Worldwide, Inc. on January 05, 2010.[14]
Although Ike Perlmutter took over as Chief Executive Officer of Marvel Worldwide, Inc., while Dan remained as President and Publisher, his official title continued to be Chief Executive Officer and Publisher - Print, Animation & Digital Media until June 14, 2010, when Marvel Television, Inc. was incorporated. Buckley replaced Eric S. Rollman as President of Marvel Animation, Inc.,[15] and his new title became Publisher & President - Print, Animation & Digital Divisions.[16]
Sometime between January 17, 2014 and February 13, 2014, Dan was promoted to President, TV, Publishing & Brand Management,[17] also overseeing TV live-action production as Executive Producer other than publishing, animation and brand management.[18]
