Synopsis for "Dream"

Randy wakes up in his room at the Clinic, feeling disoriented. As he shaves and showers he remembers a dream he had during the night where he and the rest of his therapy group the DP7 were on the run (little realizing that this dream was real, and that he is actually dreaming now). As his day begins and he meets up with most of the rest of the group, Randy starts experiencing weird time lapses and feelings of deja vu, and Dave is notably missing.

While at breakfast, Randy is hassled by Freefall from Therapy Group B, because Randy's group are set to face them in the volleyball court that evening. At their therapy session afterward, Dr. Semple tells them Dave was admitted to intensive care in the night with muscle spasms and needs rest. Randy goes to intensive care to try and see Dave, but is refused access. Randy tries to summon his antibody, but passes out from the strain. When he comes to, he heads to the cafeteria. After he's late for lunch, Randy has a physical therapy session with Dexter Charne, who shows him a series of images to determine what stimuli make his antibody emerge. Some of the images start to remind Randy of things that happened in his "dream," including a man being shot in the back - Randy feels that his back is still sore (from the Clinic's hunters shooting him with a tranq gun). Charne tells him there's no sign of activity from the antibody.

Randy goes to see Dr. Semple and talks about his feelings with her, before going to work out in the gym. Randy's approaches by one of Therapy Group B, Pamela, who asks him to help her stretch. However, she starts to use her paranormality on him, to create an emotional interface via touch. Just as Randy starts to be affected, Charly arrives and makes Pamela slip, hurting her ankle. Randy helps Charly with her dance practice and enlists her help breaking into intensive care to see Dave after the game.

In the showers, Randy's approached by one of Pamela's teammates, Rodney, who imprisons Randy in tanglewires and leaves him on the floor of the shower. Randy eventually gets free and makes it to dinner and then the game. The game gets underway and Therapy Group B keep cheating by using their powers, while Hackbarth the ref overlooks it. Scuzz argues with Randy that they should cheat too, but Randy says they have to play fairly. Therapy Group B win, and most of Randy's team are annoyed at him for playing fair.

Later, Randy and Charly break in to intensive care. They see a large figure laying under a sheet on a gurney and pull back the sheet to reveal Dave, dead, Randy screams in anguish and wakes up - the whole time he's been dreaming and under sedation, regulated by Hackbarth and Charne. Shocked, they quickly put Randy back under, then argue about how hard it is to keep all six of the caputured DP7 members under control. Back in the dream, Randy now just sees an empty gurney under the sheet. Freaked out, Randy and Charly leave, with the dream Randy saying that if he joins the Clinic staff, as he's planning, he'll change the rules about visiting intensive care.

Solicit Synopsis

The sinister sanctuary known only as the Clinic once more has D.P.7 behind its walls— and D.P.7 is glad to be there! Plus: introducing a new group of seven displaced paranormals!

Notes

The majority of this issue takes place as a dream in the mind of the sedated Randy O'Brien. Therefore, although it's the first appearance of Therapy Group B, the characters do not appear for real until several issues later.

In the issue, Charlotte refers to Pamela Leighton as Pamela Truesdale - possibly the dreaming Randy did not know Pamela's real last name and filled in the blank, or perhaps Pamela is merely a divorcee who switched between her married and maiden names.
