Synopsis for "Along Came a Spider..."

The Banshee is in central Europe looking for Factor Three, and discovers their base in a hollow mountain. However, he is attacked by a spider robot, and is injured by its blast. He flees to warn the X-Men, but only manages to radio them "Beware the spider" before passing out and being captured. At just that moment, Peter Parker is in the neighborhood to spend some quality time in nature, when an egg-shaped flying object lands virtually on top of him. He suits up and trashes the robot, but the X-Men, having been alerted to the robot's presence by Cerebro, arrive to find nothing but Spider-Man. Being wary of all spiders, battle is joined. Eventually the X-Men discover Spidey has no connection to Factor Three, and return to the mansion where they discover Jean has tracked Banshee to central Europe!

Notes

  • A footnote on page 4 gives Professor X's disappearance as having been "wondrously witnessed in X-Men #32". This is wrong on two counts. First, it actually happened in issue X-Men #33, and second, it happened off-camera and wasn't really witnessed at all.
  • The US government luckily sent up a communications satellite just months before this issue and Cerebro is able to tap in to send a communication signal to the Banshee.
  • This issue is reprinted in many other comics and books, see references for more info.[1]
