Synopsis for "24 Hours"

The issue opens with Wolverine sitting in a bar in Lowtown, Madripoor. Around him a fight breaks out between two men, proving not to be feeling himself Wolverine doesn't get involved or pay the conflict much mind. Instead, he's stuck inside his head recalling past events.

In Wolverine's past were shown another crowded saloon. Through the door comes Wolverine with a Native American woman named Silver Fox in his arms - dead. Across the bar stands Sabretooth - a man much bigger, faster, and stronger than Wolverine. He mocks him over the death of the woman and soon a brawl breaks out between the two. Smelling the blood of his love on the beast - Wolverine is sent into a rage. The fight eventually moves outside - all the while Sabretooth out-performing his adversary. Finally Wolverine is trapped under a pile of logs and wood, but when Sabretooth tries to find him he sees that Wolverine has somehow escaped and taken off into the woods. Wounded, Wolverine climbs a sheer cliff face in hopes of losing Sabretooth; however, just as he reaches the top he finds the beast already waiting for him. Again the two begin to fight - Wolverine going into his berserker, but his renewed aggression and strength doesn't help him any more than usual. In a last ditch effort for vengeance, Wolverine pounces onto Sabretooth and the two fall off a cliff. As Wolverine lies passed out in the snow, Sabretooth gets up and, it's assumed, then leaves Wolverine.

Meanwhile, the fight in the bar ends up crashing into Wolverine's table - finally giving him no choice but to get involved. The two prove to be no match for him and so he easily deals with them and then leaves. Traveling across Lowtown's roofs, Wolverine hears a scream ring out from the streets below him. Finding a severely wounded Navy sailor and a woman cornered by some street thugs, Wolverine goes about dealing with them. With no time to make it to the hospital in Hightown, the wounded sailor and his female companion are taken to Madame Joy's, a brothel. Shocked, the woman questions Wolverine's bringing them there but before they can argue Madame Joy herself sets her girls to working on the sailor - patching him up.

Inside the brothel, Wolverine meets up with Jessica Drew. Drew takes him to their new place in Lowtown where they find Lindsay McCabe. While McCabe is happy with the accommodations, Drew is more apprehensive towards the fact that Prince Baran is using them to keep eyes on the rival crime-lords General Coy and Tyger. Wolverine leaves shortly after a brief talk with the two and makes his way to Police Headquarters in Hightown. As Police Chief Tai enters his office he finds Wolverine lounging in his chair. Tai then goes on to tell Wolverine about his concerns over all the trouble he's been causing in Lowtown, but the real reason why Wolverine's here is for another matter. Tai opens his file cabinet and looks through a file - telling him that the man he's looking for (Sabretooth) is dead. Doubting the information, Wolverine leaves but not before being surprised when Tai wishes him a happy birthday.

Down on the docks Wolverine suspects he's being followed. Hiding, he waits for his follower and then pounces on her - discovering it to be Jessica Drew. Drew then let's Wolverine know that no matter what he may think, her and McCabe are concerned about his recent distant behavior, and have resorted to spying on him. Before the two can part ways though a car pulls up and the two men from the bar fight open up on them. Drew makes for the room of a nearby warehouse while Wolverine ducks behind some crates.

The two men hit Wolverine with all they have: submachine guns, grenades, and even a flamethrower. Eventually, Wolverine is thrown into the water in a giant fireball. Believing him to be dead, the two men drive off, but in the background of them frame a shadowy figure can be seen.

As Drew pulls Wolverine out of the water he thanks her for killing the two. Drew claims that she didn't even have the chance - having to pull herself out of the rubble of the destroyed warehouse. The two then wonder who it was that got them. Walking back to the Princess Bar, Wolverine spots the two men's car parked out front. Looking for payback - he jumps through the window, claws at the ready, but instead of finding a fight he only finds the two men dead. Noticing the style of their wounds, Wolverine knows who's killed them, and as he draws closer to the bodies he finds a note attached to them reading: "Nobody kills you but ME - especially today" only pointing to one man - Sabretooth.
