Calumet was the god of peace and war of the Manidoog,[2] an extra-dimensional race of beings still worshiped by the tribes of North America.[3] Specifically, Calumet was revered as a calm arbiter of combat.[3]
History
Calumet was a Manidoog who allied with Nanabozho and Hotamintanio to start gaining vengeance on the white Europeans for their acts against the native populations. They tried to recruit Owayodata and Red Wolf, but they refused and were captured. This brought them to to attention of Doctor Strange and Black Crow. Strange fought them, in their home dimension, and freed Owayodata. The group was eventually able to make them see the error of their ways.[3]
Notes
- Calumet is an original Marvel Comics character, and does not exist in Native American mythologies. Calumet is the name of a peace ritual practiced by the Delaware Indians and involving a peace pipe.[4]
