History

Origins[]

Brenda is the illegitimate daughter of Harold Meachum to a cleaner with whom he was having an affair. When her mother came to Harold and told him she was pregnant, she tore up the check she was given, confident that he would change his mind about staying with her when Brenda was born. When he met Brenda, he promised to leave his own family for them as soon as he returned from a trip to the Himalayas with his business partner, but when he returned from the trip months later, he had changed his mind, and Brenda and her mother never heard from him again.[2]

When Harold eventually died, Brenda's mother died two days later, and Brenda swore vengeance on the family that had changed Harold on that trip, using the entirety of the small fortune her father had left her to train to fight and kill. When the money ran out, she enlisted to fight in Syria, discovering that the skills she desired could only be learned in active combat.[2][1]

Meeting Iron Fist[]

After years of meticulous planning, she finally decided it was time for her to avenge her father by killing the last remaining member of the Rand family, the current Iron Fist. Posing as a journalist, she got an interview with him and was prepared to kill him, when she realized she had developed feelings for him and was unable to pull the trigger. She decided that killing him would not be enough to avenge her father, and instead decided to stick around and make him fall in love with her.[3][2]

She stuck with Danny throughout his conflict with the One, taking an injured Pei to the hospital. When they were pursued by a spider creature sent by Davos, Pei meant to face the creature, but Brenda attacked it instead, while Pei ran away.[4]

After the One's plan to resurrect Heather Rand's soul resulted in the accidental summoning of the Xian god Zhu Rong, Brenda witnessed Danny shooting himself through Zhu Rong's head to defeat him.[5]

Truth Revealed[]

Three months later, Brenda and Danny were still dating, and Pei, who had gained the power of the Iron Fist, was living with and being trained by Danny. When he asked Brenda to move in with him over dinner, Brenda mentioned the unfinished interview from when they first met, and attacked him, stating that when she starts something, she finishes it, no matter the cost. As they fought, Danny revealed he had fallen in love with her, prompting Brenda to share her story with him. In the end, realizing she still couldn't bring herself to kill him, she tried to shoot herself in the head to force him to have to watch someone he loves die, but he managed to stop the bullet from hitting her. After their devastating date, she left.[2]

Immortal Iron Fists[]

Sometime after leaving Danny, Brenda was captured and placed in the pits of Kamaloka, where she was forced to fight and kill demonic monsters. During one of her fights, she was reunited with Pei who, along with Jayce Paz, was taken to the pits by Mara and his daughters. She slayed a demon who was about to attack Pei and Jayce.[6]

When the Mother-of-Shou-Lao-Dragons attacked the pits to kill Pei, Brenda aided her while protecting the dead Jayce's body, who the dragon had killed. After Pei defeated the dragon, Brenda comforted the girl over the loss of her friend, but watched as Pei healed and resurrected Jayce with a kiss.

When Danny managed to bring Pei and Jayce back to Earth, Brenda returned as well, along with the Mother-of-Shou-Lao-Dragons. She had a small conversation with Danny before jumping on the dragon's back and flew off to parts unknown.[7]

Heart of the Dragon[]

Still seeking vengeance on Danny, Brenda was approached by the being known as the Hierophant who offered to give her Chi powers to achieve her revenge on Iron Fist, if she collected the hearts of dragons of the Heavenly Cities. Brenda agreed and began to kill dragons and claim their hearts, giving herself the moniker Yama Dragonsbane.[1]

When a dragon was spotted in Wakanda, Brenda arrived and slayed it, claiming its heart. She manage to escape while killing a group of Hatut Zeraze soldiers who tried to stop her.[8] She returned to the Hierophant's lair and offered the hearts of the dragons to her master who gave her Chi powers.[1] Once the Hierophant had enough power, she joined him to march to the Heart of Heaven. Once they arrived, they encountered Iron Fist and his allies. She murdered the Goddess Quan Yin and tried to finish off the heroes, but was knocked out by Luke Cage. The Hierophant recovered her and brought her with him to pursue Fooh, who attempted to finish them off with a powerful explosive.[9]

Fooh's attack failed as the Hierophant used his acquired dragon chi to protect himself and Brenda from the explosion. The two took a portal to the Eighth City to finish off the heroes and claim the remaining dragon hearts. When the Hierophant and Okoye clashed using their respective dragon chi powers, Brenda attempted to help her master but was caught in the resulting chi explosion which killed the Hierophant and released the hearts of the slain dragons. With her eyes and hands burnt to cinders, Brenda vowed revenge against Danny and his family. Dog Brother #1 attempted to mercy kill her but was prevented so by Danny, which was commended by Quan Yin, who survived her apparent death.[10]
