Hi guys,
Since we're at the halfway mark with Secret Wars and we have a better idea of what is going on, I think we should start up some discussions about Secret Wars and provide a guideline to the other users so everyone is on the same page about what gets updated to what.
Edit: Okay so back on point it looks like we've got a bit of a consensus on what to do. If I'm not mistaken here's what we've agreed upon:
(1) Earth-616 and Earth-1610 characters edits are back on board as soon as the event is over.
(2) No edits of unique Secret Wars alternate realities until either an official designation or an admin creates a TRN for it.
(3) No edits of "familiar" alternate realities until we can confirm if these are supposed to be the originals (House of M, Age of Apocalypse, 2099 etc) or new variants of those realities.
If we all agree I was going to send out a global message to all users advising them of the above. I was also going to remind people of:
- The Spoiler policy - That another global message will go once the Secret Wars handbook comes out and we have had a chance to review it so we can keep people informed on what realities are clarified RE: Secret Wars zones. (I plan on picking it up myself when it comes out, so I can get on that as soon as I read through it) - A hard reminder that TRN's are not to be created by general users, only admins, and that if there is a pressing need to create one to contact an admin. (Spencerz do you have this per usual? Or would you opt that we all chip in or would you like to appoint someone to handle strictly the post-Secret Wars stuff. On that latter point anyone want to volunteer?)

Original Post
I think we should wait until the Secret Wars handbook comes out to determine how many of these Battleworlds are based on previously seen realities and ones that are variations of them -- and thus a different reality designation -- (I'm not holding out that it's going to be 100% helpful, but here's hoping)
I think it will also give us a line on reality numbers so we can limit the number of TRNs that are created by people.
Right now, I think that we should be thinking of some editorial stand points anyway because there area going to be people who are going to argue things ad nauseum. If we have editorial positions on certain things we can curb those endless debates.
I'm slowly reading some of the Secret Wars stuff... But I think we need to make an editorial position on which of the realities on Battleworld are actually from previously seen realities or new ones based on those old ones.
Here are some of my thoughts on the matter:
- Age of Apocalypse - I've been skimming through this one. It is very reminiscent of the original Age of Apocalypse event. But since all the other stuff that has happened (The "New" AOA series on the 10th anniversary, and the more recent Age of Apocalypse Series) can we say definitively that this is Earth-295? Or could this be an alternate?
- 2099 ---- Which right now is a mess. I'm not entirely convinced that Earth-928 didn't diverge when Miguel O'Hara was sent back in time during Superior Spider-Man. Also all the stuff that happened after Spider-Verse. The reason why I think that is because the original 2099 series had a definitive end. When Peter David started reviving Spider-Man 2099, it seems like he plucked the character from when he was last working on him. Which, I think we should interpret in the same way as when Spider-Man 2099 was plucked from time by the Exiles. While he may have existed in Earth-928 when he was taken, the fact that the was removed from time before all the later events in the original 2099 run occurred, then it created a divergence. I would argue that the 2099 stuff post Superior Spider-Man is a divergent reality from Earth-928.
- X-Men '92 - We're going to need to figure out if this is actually the same reality as the cartoon. We're also going to have to look into how the continuity of Adventures of the X-Men Vol 1 fits into things as well. For those who are unfamiliar, when the X-Men cartoon originally aired, it was followed with a comic book adaptation titled X-Men Adventures. There was three volumes of that series that featured adaptations of episodes of the cartoon. However, instead of a fourth volume, they did a series of original stories when it came to the fourth volume. To signify the changes the title was retitled to Adventures of the X-Men. It was intended to be new stories of the X-Men cartoon characters. The reason why I bring that up is (if I'm not mistaken) that series ended with something like that universe ending (something involving the M'Kraan Crystal) and the universe (apparently Earth-616) being reborn.
Other ones I can think of right now are Years of Future Past (are these all characters from Earth-811, a mixture of all the various alternate versions of the Days of Futures Past realities), Old Man Logan, House of M, Future Imperfect -- they we're going to need to puzzle out.
I think we should at least start a discussion about it now.
The Secret Wars Handbook will probably explain most things, but from the solicit synopsis it sounds like it's going to be like other handbooks -- while most entries are going to be related to the current event -- they're also going to include various other things from past Secret Wars. As such I can see some of the focus on explaining the new Secret Wars falling on the way side and not all the answers being made available.
At any rate, we should start discussing this now, I then suggest that once we have a better idea of what we want to do editorial wise, give regular contributors some say (at least get some of the dickering that usually happens out of the way) then followed by an editorial policy statement that we can present on the last week of the Secret Wars event.
