Quote1 There was an idea, Stark knows this, called The Avengers Initiative. The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people, see if they could become something more. Phil Coulson died believing that idea... and heroes. Quote2
Nick Fury[src]

History

The Initiative[]

The Avengers were the brainchild of Director Nicholas Fury from S.H.I.E.L.D., who envisioned a team of heroes that might work together as an emergency response team in the event that a threat would prove so powerful, that no one hero could face it alone. He named his plan the "Avengers Initiative".[2]

The Avengers formed gradually through circumstance and reactive planning. Captain America was considered for the initiative after he was found by S.H.I.E.L.D. in the arctic. Thor was also considered in the initiative due to his confrontation with the Frost Giants. Bruce Baner was also included due to his appearance as Hulk. Fury initially considered Tony Stark for a role on the team, but discarded this idea due to Stark's unpredictable nature. Eventually the plan was scrapped altogether and Fury refocused his attention on military assets in the hands of S.H.I.E.L.D. instead. Circumstance however, proved to be the guiding force that brought the disparate membership of the team together when Loki made a surprise appearance at a S.H.I.E.L.D. research facility, killed a number of soldiers, and escaped with Agent Barton and Professor Selvig under his control, taking the Tesseract with him.

Assembling the Avengers[]

The threat posed by the Tesseract in the hands of Loki forced Fury to reprise his earlier idea and activate a group of people with incredible capabilities. Fury called the time-displaced World War II hero, Captain America back into service, while Stark and Dr. Bruce Banner were brought in for their scientific expertise. When Loki made a public appearance, Stark (with his Iron Man armor) and Captain America rushed to intercept, accompanied by S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Natalia Romanova, the Black Widow. The three of them confronted and captured the Asgardian, although in the effort to bring him into custody they were in turn confronted by Loki's adoptive brother, Thor. This resulted in an altercation when Thor extracted Loki, but once the men had wasted time and effort in a fruitless clash of egos, they resumed the trip together.

Once on board the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, the clashes continued, to some extent as a result of Loki's goading. Even though their agendas were largely aligned, their egos and the growing unease surrounding Fury's actions had the group in a frequent state of tension. This persisted until Loki sprang his trap and used a surprise attack from Clinton Barton, still under control, to trigger a new round of falling out within the ranks. The attack left parts of the Helicarrier in ruin, and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson dead by Loki's hand before Loki himself fled.

His killing of Coulson, proved to be his undoing however, because Director Fury used the incident to motivate the remaining people into action. Captain America and Iron Man wanted justice for Coulson; Barton, who had been pulled from Loki's control, simply wanted to put him down; and Romanoff had her own debts to settle. After chasing Loki to New York City they were soon joined by Thor and Banner, both of whom had fallen from the carrier in the attack. Finally, together as a team, the group calling themselves the Avengers assembled to fight off a threat that was larger than any one of them alone.

Battle of New York[]

Avengers (Earth-13122) from LEGO Marvel's Avengers 002

The Avengers assemble in New York

The hunt for Loki became a battle for New York when Loki opened a dimensional rift above the city to a waiting Chitauri invasion forced stationed on the other side. The Chitauri attacked without hesitation, pouring through in a vast horde of ground troops with air support. The Avengers stood fast against the assault, at first confronting the attacking warriors, and then shifting focus to other prominent target objectives. Not only was there Loki and his alien army to contend with, there were also the Chitauri's Leviathans, colossal flying beasts that were as much agents of destruction as they were a mode of transportation. The Avengers were split even further on more fronts dealing with the rift and the technology holding it open, not to mention a nuclear warhead that had also been deployed to the area at the behest of Earth's governments. They ultimately triumphed when Iron Man redirected the missile through the portal and into the ranks of even more invaders waiting beyond. Black Widow subsequently deactivated the portal so that the nuclear explosion was contained in the Chitauri realm, the destruction of their core ship deactivating the cybernetic Chitauri.

In the aftermath of the fight, the Avengers gathered for the departure of Thor, and his now-captive brother, back to Asgard where Loki and the Tesseract would be safely removed from humanity.[2] After the battle, the Avengers became icons in the super hero community.[1] From there, the Avengers would develop various members, allies and enemies.[1][3]

Cosmic Brick Crisis[]

Being tasked with protecting Grand Central Station from Sandman and Abomination. Two avengers members, Iron Man and Hulk, arrived on the scene to stop them. The two made their way through the nearby road, with Hulk eventually getting into a fistfight which resulted in Abomination's incapacitation. Entering the bank, the two were able to make their way through Sandman's defenses, causing him to retaliate and attack Stark Tower, suddenly being joined by Spider-Man, the two were able to incapacitate Sandman through Spider-Man's assistance, solidifying him with a combination of water and concrete.[1]

Afterparty at Stark Tower[]

Celebrating their victory over Galactus, Tony held a party which the guests found lifeless and boring. With the help of Rhodey, Tony was able to bring life to the party by creating a DJ table for Fury to operate, activating a disco ball and fixing a speaker that Hulk broke. Eventually, they made the finishing touches through a remote controlled Iron Patriot suit, able to begin a three-way dance routine which proved a crowd-pleaser.[1]

Age of Ultron[]

Sokovian Raid[]

Avengers (Earth-13122) from LEGO Marvel's Avengers 003

The Avengers attacking Strucker's base

After the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D., the Avengers, started tracking down Hydra bases across the world, trying to find Baron Wolfgang von Strucker and Loki's Scepter. After many months they tracked it to a Hydra research facility in Sokovia and launched an all out assault to recover it. The Avengers also noted that they were being harassed by two "enhanced" during the operation, but together with Stark's Iron Legion the team soon overthrew the Hydra soldiers and reclaimed the sceptre. Stark appealed to Thor to have two days to study the alien device before it was relocated to Asgard, which Thor agreed to, and then the team unanimously agreed to celebrate their victory.

No Strings On Me[]

Back in New York, Stark began to unravel the mysteries of the sceptre. He discovered that its core held something akin to a powerful computer and deduced that Hydra had been trying to use it to create artificial intelligence. With this knowledge he had the epiphany that he might be able to provide real adaptive thought to his Iron Legion in what he called his Ultron Program. He then left J.A.R.V.I.S. to continue investigating while he rejoined his team for a night of celebration.

The party was huge and the Avengers gathered many of their friends for the night. When the revelry had died down, and most of the guests had left, the remaining men took turns trying to lift Mjolnir. This activity was interrupted by the appearance of a wrecked Iron Legion robot. It quickly became apparent that this was being operated by a rogue artificial intelligence, and the name it claimed for itself was Ultron. Ultron, and a number of other Iron Legion robots, then attacked the small group. They rallied and beat it back, but not before one of the Iron Legion made off with the sceptre during the confusion.

Anger Management[]

The Avengers traced Ultron's movements to a salvage yard on the coast of Africa where Ulysses Klaue dealt in the lucrative end of black market trading. So began a three way battle between Klaue's men (after Ultron assaulted him), the Avengers, and a new generation of drone robots. Ultron also had the advantage of the pair of enhanced that the Avengers had encountered in Sokovia: the siblings Wanda and Pietro Maximoff. Pietro's speed allowed him to devastate the ranks of Klaue's men, while Wanda ravaged the minds of the Avengers themselves. When she at last reached Banner, her illusions caused him to fly into a rage that he then directed towards the populace of Johannesburg, and then she Ultron and Pietro made their escape.

With most of the Avengers out of action fighting their own inner demons, Stark was left to attend to the problem of a rampaging Hulk on his own. He summoned Veronica, a modular system comprised of an orbital drop pod that could deploy numerous pieces of heavy duty Iron Man outer armor. This Hulkbuster Armor afforded him the physical power to subdue the Hulk, but the public relations damage had been done, leaving Banner in a morose state.

Clint Barton took the group to a safehouse to recover, soon revealing that it was actually his family home. There they met Nick Fury, who began reorienting their thinking and fomenting new strategic considerations within the shattered ranks. Tensions ran high between Stark and Rogers, and Thor had been given a glimpse of something very troubling and departed the group to investigate further.

Korea Prospects[]

Ultron's plan to use the sceptre to create a final evolutionarily pure form for himself had become clear, and the last piece of that puzzle was with Dr. Helen Cho in South Korea. They raced for Seoul, and found Ultron deep into an attempt to load his consciousness into a new android body. Their interference forced Ultron to flee, but the group managed to separate the android body from the robot before he escaped again, and Stark, and Barton, took it back to New York. Rogers on the other hand, found himself joined by the Maximoff twins on the street of Seoul after Wanda had discovered Ultron's true intent. Romanoff had not been so lucky, and having been rendered unconscious in the confrontation soon found herself imprisoned by Ultron in Sokovia.

Once they were back in New York, Stark and Banner bickered over the android body. Stark wanted to load J.A.R.V.I.S. into it, but Banner didn't trust his judgment. The dispute continued until it was interrupted by the arrival of Rogers and the Maximoff twins, whereupon Pietro ended it by simply unplugging the entire system. Then Thor made a surprise appearance and promptly bathed the android in lightning. It awoke in the surge and cast him aside. The Avengers and the Maximoff twins all moved to counter the android but halted when it stopped by a window to gaze out upon the city. It quickly became apparent that the android was no threat, especially fostering trust in Thor when it hefted Mjolnir with ease. The assembled group then compared stories, and Thor reported news of his vision that the energy core of the sceptre had actually contained the Mind Gem, an item of incredible power and one of the legendary Infinity Stones.

Rise of Ultron[]

Avengers (Earth-13122) from LEGO Marvel's Avengers 004

The Avengers in Sokovia

The Avengers and their three allies turned their attention back to Ultron and Sokovia. Banner went alone to extract Romanoff from her prison, and the others faced off against Ultron. While Ultron's plan to divide and exterminate the Avengers had failed, its plans for the human race were about to be fully revealed. Devices planted within the city engaged, drawing a sizeable portion of it into the sky. The assembled heroes, with Banner and Romanoff back amongst them, fought back against the amassed ranks of Ultron's robot legion. James Rhodes, suited up as War Machine, and a recently repaired helicarrier with him, also eventually joined the battle. After clearing most of the Ultron robots from the city now risen above the cloud layer, the heroes began evacuating the trapped populace in personnel transports sent from the helicarrier. Barton was caught under the guns of the Avengers' own quinjet however, with Ultron at the controls, and only the intervention of Pietro saved him.

The Vision finally confronted Ultron alone after the Hulk had flung the robot from the quinjet. Heavily damaged, Ultron was no match for the android, and fell to the Vision's power. With Ultron's defeat, the group began an inevitable dissolution. The Hulk switched off the Quinjet's communications, leaving it to fly him clear of the scene. Thor and Stark each had their own agendas to pursue, with Thor needing to investigate the matter of yet another Infinity Stone coming within reach.

Despite their losses, the Avengers were also to be born anew. Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff proceeded to a new Avengers facility in New York, and welcomed a new quartet to the fold. They were joined by the Vision, Wanda, War Machine and the Falcon.[2]

Return of Ultron[]

The Avengers were preparing a surprise party in the tower for the entrance of a new Avenger. In the middle of the preparation, Tony would be mentally controlled to go to his armors and activate them together with the Iron Legion. However, a S.H.I.E.L.D. code was required. to activate the Iron Legion. Steven meets with the current controlled Tony, and is attacked, and it would soon be revealed that Ultron had returned and was controlling Tony.[5] When Tony escaped the Tower, Natasha managed to place a tracker on him. Following Tony's location, the group discovers that he is in a Stark Industries warehouse. They enter the depot and fight Tony's armor and the various Ultron Drones, however, Tony ran away. After the confrontation, Vision discovers that Darren Cross was in the suit and it was because of him that Tony was controlled by Ultron. Steven asks Scott Lang (the Ant-Man) for help in dealing with Darren.[6]

Once again following Tony's trail, the team makes their way to Little Sokovia at a base owned by Baron Wolfgang von Strucker. The group attacks the base and discovers that Ultron has been picking up contraband with Hydra, who partnered with Ultron in exchange for running Australia. Thanks to an arrow fired by Hawkeye at Tony as he fled, Scott was able to enter his armor and confront Darren.[7] Following Tony, Steve and Thor reach the Helicarrier and manage to free Ultron's control with Thor's lightning. Thanks to Spider-Man and Iron Spider burying Derren, the Avengers learned that Ultron's plan was to control Tony's new Iron Legion.[8]

Having a great final showdown against Ultron in the Tower, the villain was defeated having his systems cables ripped out by Ant-Man. After that, the party celebrating the entry of the new member into the team takes place, revealing himself to be Falcon.[9]

Kang's Invasion[]

Avenger's World Tour[]

A while after Ultron's defeat, the Avengers would have yet another off-screen confrontation with Loki. To celebrate this victory, the Avengers throw a party at the mansion where they invite several other members. The party would be interrupted by Nick Fury, who called the Avengers to warn of an attack on a nuclear facility, the location of Attuma forces, and a Raft break.

Captain America, She-Hulk and Thor go to the nuclear facility, where they are met by Presence, who takes control of Steven and several employees there. She-Hulk and Thor manage to free Steven from Presence's control and defeat him. Iron Man and Captain Marvel go to where Attuma is, discovering that he has been dealing arms with Roxxon. Carol and Tony place explosives in the facility where the trafficking was taking place, but Attuma manages to escape and damage Tony's armor. On the Brooklyn Bridge, Miss Marvel and White Tiger fight against Shocker, Mysterio, Vulture, Kraven and Doctor Octopus until Spider-Man arrives to help them. They defeat five members of the group with Vulture having fled.

Avengers teaming up with Guardians of the Galaxy

After the clashes, Kang the Conqueror arrives in Manhattan to take her to Chronopolis, along with whoever was inside her, which included the Avengers. In Chronopolis, the Avengers are forced to ally with the Guardians of the Galaxy to defeat Kang.

Exploring Chronopolis[]

Two groups are sent to investigate, a group with Groot, Gamora, Peter Quill and Steven to follow the Black Knight, and another with Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk to follow the Klaw.

The first group went to Medieval England and discovers that the Black Knight was actually Nathan Garrett disguised with an Enchantress charm. With the help of Doctor Strange and St'vaan, they manage to defeat the villains and free the true Black Knight. After St'vaan explains that there is another portal nearby, the party enters it, ending up in another part of Chronopolis. The second group, on the other hand, went to Wakanda and allied with Black Panther to fight Klaw, who was with Man-Ape. The Klaw manages to escape with Vibranium, but the heroes follow him and end up in Earth-TRN863.

The two groups meet, and after Peter discovers that Klaw's stolen Vibranium was being smuggled on the Hydra Airship, Steven sends Black Panter and Peter Quill there and the rest find a way to get back to Manhattan. After the three break in, they are discovered by Arnim Zola, who activates the alarm. After facing Klaw and winning, several Hydra vibranium robots grab Klaw and flee with him. Upon seeing Baron Zemo flying a plane outside, Steven and Peter go after him and Klaw's T'Chala. Flying a plane, Peter and Steven manage to shoot down Zola's plane and defeat him. Thor and Captain Marvel arrive there at Miss Marvel's call, and they follow the path to a portal along with She-Hulk, which leads to a swamp where the Man-Thing was. The three fight the creature unaware that Kang wanted him out of his way to destroy the Nexus of All Realities and remove Chronopolis' barriers.

The Quest for the Nexus Fragments[]

In the mansion, the Avengers have their signal interfered by Cosmo, who was trying to communicate with them, but it would be necessary to create a signal beyond Chronopolis to do that. The Guardians of the Galaxy take a power-up and use it to be able to communicate with Cosmo. The team forms a plan to open a portal to Knowhere to access Chronopolis, which requires the Nexus Fragments. Again two groups were separated, one with Spider-Man, She-Hulk and Doctor Strange to go to the Sanctum Sanctorum to get Strange's spell book, and another with Captain America, Captain Marvel and Thor to go to Asgard to ask for help from Heimdall to locate the Fragments with your vision. After facing Surtur and Mordo, the two groups return to the mansion and location of each fragment of the Nexus, with a total of five.

Wasp divided three groups to get them, the first group with Spider-Man, She-Hulk and Miss Marvel to get the shards on K'un-Lun and Earth-TRN865, the second with Captain America, Captain Marvel, Thor and Doctor Strange to get the fragments in Lemura and Egypt, and finally the third being the Guardians of the Galaxy in Hala. The three groups manage to collect the shards and team up with the Inhumans and reunite with Hulk on Sakaar. With the fragments, they manage to create a machine to open a portal, however, Kang knew about the heroes' plan, so he managed to hack the machine and make it bring Ego, the planet alive. The heroes manage to stop and bring Knowhere to Chronopolis.

Fight Against Kang[]

Kang (Earth-13122) from LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 001

Kang's Defeat

Now with Kang's tower defenses down, the group could invade, if not for the villain's ship, which decimated the Nova corps. Iron Man, Spider-Man and Star Lord invade the ship to bring it down, not expecting that Kang would bring the ship down with them inside and call Korvac to face the three. Luckily they manage to escape. In Nueva York, the Avengers, along with several other heroes, fight Kang's army while Captain America, Doctor Strange, and Captain Marvel invade Kang's tower. However, unknown to them, Star Lord also broke into the tower and accidentally caused the alarm to go off. After many obstacles, they finally reach the room where Kang was, who was waiting for Steven to fight him, as he was "the worthy enemy" to fight Kang who used a projection to become giant and destroy Nueva York. Using a projection, Steven also becomes giant and manages to defeat the villain, who has now been transformed into a baby by his wife, Ravonna. With Kang's defeat, the heroes throw a celebration party at Kang's tower, and Ravonna says that she will return all worlds to their timelines.

Terminatrix[]

After everything was restored, Tony, Steve and Carol were approached by Ravonna, now called Terminatrix, along with Cosmo, Man-Thing, an elderly Kang and the Supreme Intelligence, warning them of an incoming threat.[3]

Trouble in Wakanda[]

The Avengers were eating a BLT at a diner at Star-Lord's suggestion, until Black Panther showed up fighting Thanos, the group helped him defeat the villain.[10] Later, T'Challa asks for their help in defeating Thanos once again in Wakanda. The group was losing the fight because Thanos was using Vibranium to have a lot of power, until Tony and T'Challa went to the mines of Wakanda and used Vibranium to teleport Thanos into the vacuum of space.[11]

Climate Conundrum[]

LEGO Marvel Avengers- Climate Conundrum Season 1 2

Avengers together with Justin Hammer

With the A.I.M. along with Justin Hammer stealing Tony's climatic machine, the Avengers would try to stop them from stealing the machine.[12] After Hammer discovers that Red Skull was behind it all, he allies with the Avengers to stop the villain's plan: Use Tony's climate machine to take over the world.[13]

The Avengers split into three groups to destroy the weather machine's weather generating towers, the first group having Captain America and War Machine (and Tony called Black Panther to help them), the second group having Iron Man and Detroit Steel, and the third Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow.[14]

After all the towers are destroyed, the heroes go to the secret base of A.I.M. where Red Skull intended to use one last turret on the weather machine. Even managing to defeat the villain, he manages to escape and even places a satellite made by A.I.M. to control the weather to destroy Manhattan as the base exploded. Captain America calls Captain Marvel and asks her to destroy the satellite. After the confrontation, the heroes started cleaning up the mess made by the weather machine.[15]

Loki Training[]

Loki decides to join the Avengers and become a hero, being trained by the group. What the Avengers did not expect is that simultaneously with this, Thanos and his Chitaure army invaded Earth in search of the Infinity Stones, having taken the Helicarrier of SHIELD. The Avengers they were face him, however, they would all be arrested by the Chitauris. After everyone is trapped, Thanos reveals that he was after the Stones that were kept in the vault by Loki. But luckily Loki arrives to help them escape, managing to free them and now helping in the battle against Thanos. The group manages to defeat Thanos (because the Stones that Loki hid were fake), and Loki decides he doesn't want to be a hero anymore and leaves.[16]

Time Twisted[]

After Scott Lang had his van stolen while buying donuts for the team, the Avengers began trying to locate the van (mainly because it had a quantum field in it). When they manage to locate, they discover that the van was on a strange island. To investigate, Scott Lang goes there and discovers that the island is a Hydra base, and that his van was stolen by Thanos allied with Hydra itself, and to make matters worse, the villain was transferring past villains from the team to the present to defeat the Avengers and dominate the world, and then the universe.

Upon seeing the imminent threat, the group began to prepare to go to the island to end Thanos' plans. Tony gave Natalia Romanoff the Hulkbuster and the Hydra Stomper Armor to Steven, while Tony used a new Hulkbuster. For the battle, the group also asked for help from Wanda Maximoff and Black Panther. Everyone goes to the island and fights the villains, the villains were getting the better of being in greater numbers, until Scott had the idea of shrinking the island with the villains inside.[17]

Code Red[]

When Hydra attacked New York with their newest equipment, the Avengers faced and successfully defeated them. As a celebration, the group played a game of bowling in the tower, in which Natasha's father, the Red Guardian, participated, which distracted Natasha and made her angry with him. After a while, the group realized that the Red Guardian had disappeared, and thanks to an investigation carried out by Black Panther into the disappearance of the Red Ghost, the Avengers discovered that several individuals with Red in their name had disappeared, which makes them talk with the only one that hasn't disappeared until then: Red She-Hulk, who was in an abandoned old west at his father's request.

Upon arriving at the location, Red She-Hulk had a disagreement with the Hulk, but would soon calm down after talking to Natasha about her parents. However, the conversation would be interrupted by the arrival of the man behind the disappearances, the Collector. The heroes fought against the villain's robots, but were unable to stop him from kidnapping Red She-Hulk. Upon realizing that to discover the Collector's location it was necessary to track Red She-Hulk, the group asked Wolverine for help, as his advanced sense of smell could easily track her. Arriving at Red She-Hulk's location, the group comes across an abandoned gas station, which was the Collector's hideout. Accessing through an accidental secret passage, the Avengers were separated by the Collector's computer, with Iron Man and Black Panther sent to the damaged parts warehouse, Hulk and Wolverine to the animal area, and Black Widow, Steven Rogers, Sam Wilson and Thor to the Collector's room.

Burdened by the Avengers, the Collector decides that he would include them as part of his collection, but before doing so, Natasha manages to trick him, saying that the collection would be incomplete as the Red Guardian would be in two collections, lying that he was an Avenger. This gave time for Iron Man, Black Panther (with armor made from parts from the warehouse), Hulk and Wolverine to arrive and begin a confrontation against the villain. The group manages to free everyone from the red collection and a few more, which made the Collector angry enough to decide to leave the planet with his base (which was actually a ship). Celebrating their victory, the Avengers threw a pancake party in the tower.[4]
