The Antimatter Injection System is composed of two devices: a bomb and a trigger. It was used by the Black Swan to destroy incursion worlds, the Earths of colliding universes.[4] After she had been captured by the Illuminati, the secret think tank recreated it and, with the Black Swan's approval and blessing, used it to reluctantly destroy other Earths in the Great Game of Worlds.[1]
After Namor had destroyed the Earth of Earth-4290001,[5] a living world full of heroes, the Illuminati abandoned their mission and refused to kill any more Earths. Rejecting this, Namor formed the Cabal with the Illuminati's prisoners, including the Black Swan, to continue to sacrifice Earths in the coming incursions.[6]
History
In an incursion, two Earths from different realities collide over an eight hour period, and if they do, both realities are destroyed. This can be stopped by destroying one of the Earths.[7] The Black Swan used the antimatter injection system to "offer" Earths to Rabum Alal so that "many may live for a season longer."[8]
In the incursion between Earth-1331 and Earth-616, the latter's first incursion, the Black Swan landed on Earth-616 with some inhabitants of the other universe. The Manifold was unable to pull the trigger to destroy his own Earth. In response to his weakness, the Black Swan killed him and destroyed the other Earth herself, but she was knocked out by Black Panther immediately after.[4]
The Illuminati reverse-engineered the trigger used by Black Swan and created their own version of the Antimatter Injection System, which they first used to destroy the desolated, yet incursive, Earth from another universe.[1] One month later, Mr. Fantastic finished building an arsenal of these bombs following the success of the first one.[9]
When Thanos invaded Earth, his Black Order invaded Wakanda and found Necropolis, the Illuminati's base of operations, where they discovered the Antimatter Injection Systems[2] and planned to use one of them to destroy the Earth.[10] Supergiant of the Black Order attempted to detonate it early to kill both herself and Thanos, but Maximus pulled the trigger first and Lockjaw teleported it to a distant planet, where it killed only Supergiant.[11]
Months later, the Illuminati brought another Antimatter Injector to the Incursion point with Earth-4290001's planet Earth, Egypt.[12] After defeating that Earth's heroes, the Great Society, the Illuminati planted the bomb. Because none of the Illuminati desired to do the unthinkable, destroying an entire innocent and inhabited Earth, Namor detonated the bomb himself.[13]
After being excluded from the Illuminati due to acting against his teammate's will, Namor liberated the Illuminati's prisoners and formed the Cabal,[14] who took over Necropolis and used the Antimatter Injector Systems to destroy each new incursive Earth.[14]
Properties
The function of the Antimatter Injector is to pierce the core of a planet and cause a virtually instantaneous planetary explosion.[3] The trigger only needs 6 pounds of pressure to pull.[15]
