History

This artillery piece shoots compressed air in the form of intensified wind. It is very useful against air-based enemies, but Dr. Doom designed it specifically to counter the powers of the Human Torch: Him and other similar superpowered beings lose their flame-based abilities when impacted.[1][2] The Torch himself had to dodge it once, but when the Guards were busy fighting his peers, he had a chance to fly to the Castle.[2]

Doom kept one or more of these air guns, or air cannons, on the tops of the towers of his Castle. He used three Servo-Guards to operate each of these, and a rotating platform so that they could aim.[1]

Trivia

  • Called "Air gun" in the comic appearance, but "Air cannon" in the RPG book Machines of Doom #1.
