History

Origin and early years[]

Agamemnon was the son of Atreus, king of Mycenae, and of Queen Aërope, granddaughter of King Minos of Crete. He had a brother, Menelaus.

When his father was murdered and his kingship usurped by Aegisthus, the brothers fled to Sparta.

There, Agamemnon married the Spartan princess Clytemnestra. He returned to Mycenae, defeated Aegisthus, and became king.[1] At some point, he became the High King of the Argives.[2]

Trojan War[]

When Menelaus' wife Helen was abducted by Prince Paris of Troy, he gathered the Achaeans,[1] and led them in the siege of Troy.[2]

He was killed by his wife and her lover Aegisthus.[1]

Modern Days[]

During World War II, the spirit of Menelaus endowed the "the battle-prowess of Agamemnon" to American teenager Lon Crag.[3]
