History

The Adirondack mountain range is located in the northeastern part of New York that runs through Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Saratoga, Warren, and Washington counties.

The mountains are often included by geographers in the Appalachian Mountains, but they are geologically more similar to the Laurentian Mountains of Canada. They are bordered on the east by Lake Champlain and Lake George, which separate them from the Green Mountains in Vermont. They are bordered to the south by the Mohawk Valley and to the west by the Tug Hill Plateau, separated by the Black River. This region is south of the St. Lawrence River.

As Anthony Stark called the press to one of his cabins, the Mandarin reached him to hypnotize him, but he was stopped by Iron Man. The press who have gathered listened intently while the Mandarin boasted about his plot to frame Stark for treason, clearing Stark's name in the process. Hoping to escape, the Mandarin captured Janice Cord and tried to escape in his ship. Iron Man boarded and tried to stop him, however it was not until Mei Ling realized how evil the Mandarin was and that he could never love her, that Stark managed to save Janice when Mei Ling tried to stop her lover. Her interference cost Mei Ling her life, however Iron Man and Janice managed to escape while the Mandarin's ship crashed into the side of a mountain, seemingly killing his foe.[1]

Meanwhile, as Tony Stark apparently collapsed to the ground during a press conference, he was rushed to a nearby hospital in a small Adirondack town, where he miraculously recovered and was taken by helicopter to the Stark Industries.[2]

After Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Toad managed to escape from the destruction of Magneto's island fortress, they crash-landed atop an isolated peak in the Adirondacks: Quicksilver left her sister in the care of the tragic Toad, hurtling towards the heart of New York to prove they were not evil.[3]

Tony Stark returned to his mountain retreat with Cheryl Porter to hide her from the Mercenary, who followed them, and seeing a vengeance-seeking Vincent Sandhurst about to blow the car up, shot him. After the battle with the Mandarin, Stark made some improvements to his cabin and locked Cheryl into an underground bunker, while the Mercenary attacked the lodge, battling and eventually overpowering Iron Man. Intending to trick Cheryl into letting him into the lodge's bunker, he disguised himself as Stark, only to be mistakenly slain by Sandhurst, who died in turn seconds later. The real Tony Stark eventually rescued Cheryl Porter and brought here back to New York City.[4]

Many years later, the Fantastic Four took their Fantasti-Car and flew into the Adirondack Mountains, to a medieval castle rising from the forest, where the Puppet Master was secretly controlling them.[5]
