History
Dr. Abraham Erskine was a brilliant scientist and a member of the Nazi party. As part of a German program to usurp the resources of enemy nations for development of Nazi technology, Erskine began working for the U.S. government on Project Rebirth, with the goal of creating super-soldiers for use in World War II. The Americans were unaware that Erskine's true goal was to create the perfect Aryan race, hence why they chose Steven Rogers, a scrawny, blonde, blue-eyed young man as their first subject.[1]
The experiment was a success, but when a Nazi agent attempted to assassinate Rogers soon after the success of the experiment, the stray bullet killed Erskine instead. As a result, the method of creating more super-soldiers was lost to both the Germans and Americans, and Steve Rogers would become vital in the defeat of Nazi Germany during World War II.[1]
Both Rogers and the Americans would remain unaware of Erskine's true allegiance until the Red Skull revealed the truth to Rogers decades later.[1]Attributes
