History

The Ancient One would be interested in recruiting Stephen Strange after the surgeon damaged his hands ending his career. However, instead of directing the man into wanting to learn the mystic arts under his tutelage, his traitorous student Baron Mordo would use his magical powers to heal Strange's hands. The Ancient One would watch with growing distress as Strange would return to his original career and then later after being found guilty of malpractice, and taking up Mordo's offer to learn the mystic arts under Dormammu.

The Ancient One would attempt to try and find another disciple in Dr. Doom, who would refuse to serve under another. Desperate, the Ancient One would gather mystics Rama Kaliph, Anthony Druid, Lord Phyffe, Count Carezzi, Agatha Harkness and the Mad Ganghis. The group of magicians would mostly agree not to use the Eye of Agamotto to summon Eternity to solve their problems.

When Strange would attack them later, the Ancient One would have his comrades erect a mystical barrier between them. However when Strange attempted to shatter it, a panicked Druid would cast a spell he thought would bring Eternity, but instead bring eternal doom. It would take the Ancient One's combined strength with the other mystics to prevent anyone to get sucked through the portal that was opened. Despite their efforts, Strange and Mad Genghis would be pulled through, although only Strange would survive the experience.

Seeking advice, the Ancient One would use Victoria Bentley, Wong and Hamir as mediums for the Vishanti for advice. With their advising, the Ancient One would send Strange the Eye of Agamotto, knowing that he would use it to attempt to destroy him. When Strange came to attack, the Ancient One and the others would use illusion to convince Strange that they were slain. Strange would subsequently go on to attack Eternity and realize the errors of his evil ways, and would have his life spared by choosing a path of good. When Strange would return he would beg the Ancient One to teach him. The Ancient One would accept his request and train Strange to be his successor. [1]
