History

Wong-Chu (Earth-616) from Tales of Suspense Vol 1 39 0002
Wong-Chu was a communist leader in Sin-Cong.[1] When he captured Tony Stark after a land mine had severely injured the American tycoon, he offered Stark a deal: if Stark would build a power weapon for the Communists, Wong-Chu would allow his surgeons to save Stark's life. Stark knew that Wong-Chu was lying, being fully aware that if the surgeons could have operated, then they would have done so immediately, to see to it that he lived long enough to design weapons for them. But he agreed, hoping to gain time and access to tools. He pledged that the weapon he built would be his, intended for the sole purpose of keeping him alive.

Stark was given access to a small laboratory in communist territory. along with the assistance of a fellow captive, Professor Ho Yinsen. Yinsen helped Stark design and build an electrically powered suit of iron armor and equipped it with a variety of offensive weaponry. The armor also contained a pacemaker-like device that would enable Stark's injured heart to keep beating after the shrapnel entered it. When Wong-Chu became suspicious of his two captives' work, Yinsen sacrificed his life to give Stark time to charge the suit. As Iron Man, Stark avenged Yinsen's death, defeated Wong-Chu by igniting a line of petrol with a naked flame on his suit and causing an explosion and scattered his guerilla troops.[2]

Iron Man later discovered that Wong-Chu had actually survived. He rebuilt his power and entrenched himself in one of Southeast Asia's most desolate jungles. Where he was protected by his army and had acquired a fortune created through the sale of drugs, weapons, and children. He was likely the world's most powerful drug lord. The peasants in his territory were forced to live in poverty under his oppressive regime, branded on their faces to mark them as his property. Thousands who refused to serve him were slaughtered and dumped in a ravine. The Sons of Yinsen had learned of his survival and continuing atrocities, therefore they had been trying to locate Wong-Chu, disrupt his international operations, and force him to come out of his stronghold.[3]

Iron Man and the Sons of Yinsen stormed his compound, only to discover that his men were ready to execute a dozen villagers unless he surrendered. They surrendered and he slaughtered the villagers anyway. He then had one of the Sons of Yinsen branded, after which he taunted and humiliated them. Wong-Chu was going to have them executed when Iron Man managed to escape. The Sons of Yinsen were able to dodge the executioners' fire and Iron Man summoned the Iron Man drones who arrived like the cavalry, with repulsor blasts. He then pursued Wong-Chu who fled to his bunker, which was booby-trapped. One of the Sons of Yinsen then killed him with a machete.[3][4]
