Thor: The Dark World comes out this Friday, and though the movie's version of the Norse superhero is one of the most iconic, a number of beings -- human, demigod, and otherwise -- have been lucky enough to wield the mighty power of Thor.

|Thor is the blood-son of Odin, All-Father of the Asgardians, and Jord, who was also known as Gaea, the goddess who was one of the Elder Gods. Odin sought to father a son whose power would derive from both Asgard and Midgard (as the Earth realm is called by Asgardians), and hence he sought to mate with Jord. Odin created a cave in Norway where Jord gave birth to Thor.||Roger Norvell or Red as he prefers to be known was a member of film crew making a documentary. The team was brought to Asgard in secret by the trickster god Loki. When Red first saw the Lady Sif he was enchanted by her beauty and tried his best to gain her attention, but was rejected. Red Norvell did not take the rejection well, and was convinced that he could take on the god Thor is any challenge. Loki then realizing his chance offers Red powers equal to that of Thor, and Red accepted. Neither Red or the trickster god realized they were fulfilling Odin the All-father's plan.||After the Karbonites home galaxy was destroyed, the surviving creatures nominated Beta Ray Bill to represent them. Determined a threat by S.H.I.E.L.D. satellites, Thor was sent to investigate, but lost his hammer after a battle. Beta Ray Bill found the hammer and kept it as a spoil of battle, eventually wielding it as his own. He is the only non-Norse character to have ever wielded Thor's Hammer.|
|Eric Masterson (Earth-616)||Dargo Ktor (Earth-8710)||Thor Odinson (Earth-1610)|
|When Thor killed Loki, Odin punished him and had Masterson replace him as Thor. Eric was uneasy in the role, finding it difficult to convince his teammates that he was the same Thor that had accompanied them on previous missions. He eventually admitted the truth. When Thor returned, Odin had the Uru mace Thunderstrike given to Eric. He continued to adventure, calling himself Thunderstrike after the mace he used.||Dargo Ktor grew up on a future Earth dominated by the oppressive Corp; after the discovery of Thor's hammer Mjolnir embedded in some rock, some of the populace, the Cult of the Hammer, drew hope from the belief that one of them might prove worthy to lift it, and thus gain Thor's power. By retrieving the hammer, Dargo Ktor becomes the host of a 26th-century version of Thor, who is empowered when holding Mjolnir, a subject of worship in that century.||Ultimate Thor is a superhero in the Ultimate Marvel Universe based on the Marvel Universe version of Thor, detailed above.|
