Hunger Games meets a superhero-filled, futuristic world. That's the kind of high-powered action in Blake Northcott's series Arena Mode. I had the opportunity to interview Blake about the 3rd book in the series, Final Empire. The book continues the story with Matthew Moxon, a brilliant-but-lazy 30 year old, who discovers the only way to save his life is to enter the arena, and fight to the death.
The Arena Mode books are written with novel-length adventures, but benefit from artwork by top-notch artists such as Steve McNiven, Roc Upchurch, Natasha Allegri, and many more who lend their skills to breathe life into the characters of a world where urban combat is a sport, with an unimaginable prize.
"This will be huge for RPG fans who are into comic books", says Northcott. Strong character development and a twisting story are key elements that fans of those genres must see to be truly engaged and immersed in the world.
The Arena Mode series have all been self-published, with Final Empire available via Kickstarter until this Sunday. A number of exclusives have also been made available since the project has blown through its original funding goal, and is closing in on triple her target. With strong positive reviews from Mark Millar and Mark Waid, its no surprise this series has been so successful.
Many people will also know Blake from her writing for Comic Book Resources or CBS Man Cave Daily. She is also a self-described Twitter-er, with over 31,000 followers (We're jealous, Blake!). Check out my interview with Blake Northcott and head right over to Final Empire's Kickstarter page for more information, and to pick up a copy before it's too late.
