History

Early Interactions with Super-Heroes[]

Although a small town, Stamford was not immune to the world of super-heroes. The town was once briefly the home of Mister Fantastic and his wife the Invisible Woman during a brief time they spent away from the Fantastic Four to spend time with their son, Franklin.[1]

The town was also visited by a small alien named Gromitz who sought out scrap metal, and secretly visited the Richards home.[2]

Stamford was the seat of AIM Research Facility #13 and, as AIM stored there some Cybertek technology they had acquired, the Facility was attacked and raided by Mainframe and Ben Jacobs, two former Cybertek workers with technology-based superpowers who wanted to obtain the data in AIM's possession, along with the cyborg Deathlok who was controlled by them at that point. Killing several AIM members in the process and overpowering the Police, the SWAT and the Army Reserve, Mainframe and Jacobs were however defeated when Deathlok recovered and forced to escape (thou Jacobs intended to stay and kill Deathlok); Deathlok then explained the situation to the authorities.[3]

The Punisher's war on crime briefly touched the town of Stamford, when the Punisher traveled there to kill a man who biologically engineered coca seeds to produce a more versatile crops of cocaine.[4]

Stamford was also where former criminals Piranha Jones and Cockroach Hamilton tried to start a new life, drawing in the Punisher and the Terror after them.[5]

Stamford Incident[]

Robert Hunter (Earth-616) from Civil War Vol 1 1 001

It was the location infamous for the events precipitating the current superhuman Civil War. The war was in response to the passage of the Superhuman Registration Act,[6] which is in turn a response to the careless murder of over 600 people by Nitro (including 60 school children caught at ground zero of Nitro's blast).[7]

Camp Hammond & the Initiative[]

Along the time, protesters grouped around Camp Hammond, requesting the expulsion of the Camp.[8][9]

Ragnarok[]

After being reactivated,[9] Thor's clone rampaged in Camp Hammond, eventually repelled by the joint forces of the Initiative and of the New Warriors,[10] but the battle cost their lives to fourteen civilians along with the Scarlet Spider Michael, plus twenty-two injured. Summed up with the MVP cloning affair, that event gave the legitimacy for Norman Osborn to shut down Camp Hammond. Instants after this announcement, the people of Stamford attacked the Camp, tearing it down, and pulling down the statue of Jim Hammond.[11]
