Roberto DaCosta was a vigilante mutant from Harlem, New York. He blamed the X-Men for living separately from "second class" mutants like himself. He also hated Magneto and his Brotherhood because of the destruction of the Brooklyn Bridge. He later joined Emma Frost's Academy of Tomorrow.

Sunspot was killed by the Madrox dupes during the Ultimatum Wave.

Absorbs solar radiation and rechannels it through his body generating:

Dark solar plasma blasts,
Thermal updrafts for flight
