Quote1 Everything we do has a purpose. It was necessary for you to see that before you see this--the greater good always makes the necessary evil more tolerable. Quote2
Reed Richards[src]

Reed Richards of Earth-98570 was one of the three founders of the Interdimensional Council of Reeds, each with an Infinity Gauntlet.[1] He was killed when the Mad Celestials attacked the Council.[2]

History

Origin[]

Reed Richards (Earth-98570) from Fantastic Four Vol 1 605

Richards as head of the Nazi party

In a universe where Nazi Germany succeeded in conquering the world during World War II, Reed Richards eventually became a scientist working for Hitler's new space program. Unable to solve the conundrum of how to shield his rocket from radiation, Richards enlisted the aid of several other scientists, with one, Viktor von Doom, able to find a solution. Richards promptly removed Doom's brain and attached a portion of it to his own through surgery and discovered an entirely new purpose for the space flight. By altering the shielding to focus the cosmic rays rather than deflect them, he exposed himself, pilot Benjamin Grimm, and fellow passengers Jonathon and Susan Sturm to the radiation, thus gaining superpowers.[1]

Believing that Hitler was unfit to lead humanity towards his vision of the future, Richards had the now monstrous Grimm kill the dictator along with the Sturm siblings during a public ceremony. As the new leader of the Nazi party, Richards used his vast resources and intellect to obtain the Infinity Gauntlet, which he dubbed the "God Hand," but he was attacked by the world's super heroes before he could use it to remake the world. In a moment of desperation, he accidentally destroyed the Earth, the solar system, and the Milky Way galaxy with the Gauntlet.[1]

The Council of Reeds[]

Founding the Council of Reeds

Left floating in space after the destruction of his world, Richards eventually had the idea to create a bridge to another universe, discovering a pocket dimension where he met two alternate versions of himself who possessed Infinity Gauntlets of their own. Together with Reed-12498 and Reed-99107, they founded the Interdimensional Council of Reeds.[1]

Being killed by a Mad Celestial

When the Council contacted Reed Richards of Earth-616 when he activated the Bridge, each of the three founders spent time with him to show him the workings of the Council and what they did. For Reed-98570, he and Reed-616 went to Earth-45 where the Council launched a surgical strike against its Doctor Doom. To Reed-616's horror, Reed-98570 defeated its Doom and used a special collar to destroy his intelligence, then he placed the villain in the Hole, a space underneath the main council chamber where the Council kept all its lobotomized Doctor Dooms. Reed-98570 explained that everything the Council did had a purpose, including necessary evils, as the threat of Doom was too great and Doom's will would never yield. Soon after, Mad Celestials from Earth-4280 attacked the Council and killed him, Reed-99107, and several other Reeds.[3]

Corpse

Although the Mad Celestials were temporarily repelled by the last Reed founder, who used his Infinity Gauntlet and a Universal Entropy Gun,[4] the Mad Celestials soon came back and annihilated the rest of the Council. Valeria Richards used the Bridge and witnessed this event; she found the corpses of Reed-98570 and Reed-99107 with their Infinity Gauntlets still on them.[5] Valeria told Doctor Doom about this as a gift, and after a climatic battle against the Mad Celestials, Doom found the two Infinity Gauntlets in the ruins of the former Council's base.[6] Doom used one of them to rule its native universe as a god, but he was overthrown and declared that being a god was "beneath" him after he was rescued by the Richards family.[7]

Attributes

Powers

  • Superhuman Intellect: Like many of his multiversal counterparts, Reed Richards gained superhuman powers following exposure to interstellar radiation. However, instead of developing elasticity like the Earth-616 Reed, he instead gained greatly enhanced intellect. He has also exhibited possible mental powers such as telekinesis, as he was once able to remove the shackles binding Benjamin Grim with seemingly only a thought.

Abilities

  • Genius Scientist: Richards was described as having a "perfect mind" and has displayed advanced mental finesse in multiple fields of science, including helping to design an early spacecraft and performing open brain surgery on both a patient and himself.
  • Victor von Doom's Thought Process: By surgically implanting a portion of Victor von Doom's brain into his own, Richards now has the ability to mimic the thought patterns of Doctor Doom or any similar counterpart across the multiverse. Not only does this give him a generally better understanding of Doom and his methods than other Reeds, but it also grants him entirely separate insight on how to solve problems.
