Early Life[]

Much of Peter Parker's early life mirrors that of his Earth-616 counterpart.

Peter Parker (Earth-9997) from Earth X Vol 1 11 0001

The return of Spider-Man

While still a child, Peter's parents died, and he came to reside with his aunt and uncle. While in high school, Peter attended a science exhibit on radioactivity. The experiment was compromised when a spider fell within the path of free-flowing radiation, and then bit Peter, triggering his mutation and granting him superhuman powers. Now calling himself Spider-Man, Peter used his new abilities to become a television star.[2]

After filming one of his programs, he refused to stop a thief escaping a pursuing police officer. The thief would go on to murder Peter's Uncle Ben in a robbery gone wrong. Peter convinced himself that, as his uncle had always told him, great power brought great responsibility, and he vowed to use his newfound powers to become a hero.[2]

In time, Peter fell in love with Gwen Stacy, the daughter of a prominent New York City police officer and took a job for the Daily Bugle, working under publisher J. Jonah Jameson. Gwen's father was killed by supervillain Dr. Octopus, and Spider-Man was blamed, both by the Daily Bugle and by Gwen Stacy. Gwen was thrown off a bridge by the Green Goblin shortly thereafter. In trying to save her, Peter accidentally broke her neck by catching her with his webbing, leaving him all but destroyed by guilt.[3][2]

In time, Peter would marry Mary Jane Watson, and the two eventually had a child named May after Peter's aunt. For a time, Peter was host to the Venom symbiote, but managed to free himself from its control. Peter's marriage to Mary-Jane was difficult, as Peter's guilt over Gwen's death prevented him from loving his new wife fully and freely. Peter would ultimately outlive her, as Mary Jane Watson-Parker died of cancer a year before the mutation of Earth's population.[4][3][5]

Furthermore, Peter Parker's identity as Spider-Man was revealed by Norman Osborn, to J. Jonah Jameson, who published it in the Daily Bugle. Shortly thereafter, the Daily Bugle went out of business as it became the laughing stock of the newspaper industry for having the supposed "greatest menace ever" on the company payroll. Peter was forced to go into hiding, living under the name of "Parker Reilly" in order to avoid stalkers. This made Peter increasingly bitter and weary of his life as a hero.[5]

Mutation of Humanity[]

When the entirety of humanity was mutated, Peter was one of many heroes still trying to help a world gripped by chaos and anarchy. Guided by Daredevil, Peter found David Jarrett, the last unmutated human on Earth. Peter took him in, and helped bring David to the Baxter Building, fending off his old foe Kraven the Hunter along the way.[5][6] David was tragically killed during the storming of the Baxter Building by a mutant mob, after Peter had returned home to make sure his daughter was safe. His experiences with David briefly lifted Peter's spirits and alleviated his bitterness, but this was not to last.[7]

At some point after the mutation of humanity, Peter retired as a superhero, feeling he no longer had anything to offer in a world where everyone had superpowers and disheartened by the many setbacks and losses he had suffered. Peter would suffer from depression, and became overweight. His old superhero colleague Luke Cage offered him a position on the NYPD, which Peter declined.[2][8]

At some point, Peter's daughter May became the target of the Venom symbiote that had once bonded with Peter and his erstwhile nemesis Eddie Brock. May bonded with the symbiote, but her own innate powers allowed her to take control over it completely. Peter did not trust Venom however, and did not believe his daughter was in control of the symbiote, driving a wedge between them, as May became a hero in her own right.[8][3]

When his daughter tried to fight off the invading superhuman army of the Skull, Peter tried to dissuade her. Ignoring his warnings, she found herself enslaved by the Skull. Realizing his mistake in not acting sooner, and desperate to save his daughter, Peter stole an old Spider-Man costume from a shop window. He rescued Captain America after his first unsuccessful attack on the Skull and then aided in the second strike during which he was forced to fight his own mind-controlled daughter. The battle ended when Captain America managed to sneak up on the Skull and snap his neck, freeing May from his control. After the battle's conclusion and the defeat of the Celestials in New York Harbor, Luke Cage once again asked Peter to join the police; this time Peter agreed.[9]

Universe X[]

Over the next three years Peter got back in shape and became a respectable member of the New York City police department. When the shifting of Earth's poles caused New York to freeze and food to become scarce, one of Peter's tasks was protecting one of the city's food supply stations.[10]

During one such mission he battled a number of the original Inhumans, until the battle was stopped by Spiders Man (a mutated human who's lizard like appearance resembled Peter's Spider-Man costume). This was the first time the NYPD came into contact with the Church of Immortus, a group led by Immortus and Mr. Church (later revealed to be Mephisto) who believed that the mutated mankind was destined for the stars.[10]

Realizing that Spiders Man was using his illusions to keep Immortus' followers in check, Luke Cage sent Peter out to capture Spiders Man to weaken the control Immortus had on them. When Peter did not return from his mission, May went looking for him. As it turned out when Peter confronted Spiders Man, the two became trapped in an illusionary world that Peter subconciously seized control of. Using her symbiote to access this fantasy world, May learned that Peter had created a world where Gwen Stacy had survived, the tragedies that ended his career as Spider-Man never happened, and wherein he and Gwen had a son. Horrified by this vision of her father's subconcious desires, Venom beat Spiders Man until the illusion stopped. Peter awoke and stopped her from killing Spiders Man, before begging her forgiveness, and explaining to her how Gwen's death had made his relationship with Mary-Jane difficult, but that he loved and needed his daughter above all else.[3]

Later Peter aided Luke Cage, Marshall Muldoon, and a number of other heroes in defending New York City's Human Torch (a device that burned the Terrigen Mists from the air that caused the world's population to mutate) which was under siege from the followers of Immortus, who were being manipulated by Mephisto.[11]

This plan ultimately failed, ending with the Absorbing Man literally absorbing New York City before sacrificing himself to save the world from destruction by turning into Vibranium and replenishing the worlds supply, thereby eliminating the threat.[12]

Paradise X[]

Peter resumed his police duties, but things got weirder for Peter when Spider-Girl, a version of his daughter from another dimension, arrived as one of X-51's Heralds. After aiding X-51 in his quest to warn alternate realities of the Celestials growing in Earth's core, Spider-Girl was granted the wish to meet Peter Parker. She revealed that the reason why she wore Ben Reilly's Spider-Man costume was because Ben Riley was her father. Spider-Girl and Venom became quick friends, much to Peter's dismay.[13]

Peter was later caught up in a "domestic dispute" between the inhabitants of the Negative Zone, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Red Wing, and a number of X-51's Heralds at the Baxter Building. The battle was broken up by Reed Richards who called all gathered to aid in his quest to stop Mar-Vell.[14]

Across the Spider-Verse[]

Peter would continue to defend his Earth's New York as one of its finest while also being recruited by Miguel O'Hara of Earth-928B to join his Multiversal Spider-Society.

Wearing his uniform and also a mask, Peter would use his knowledge in the force to keep order in the Spider-Society's HQ from time to time.

He was present in the HQ when the Society chased Miles Morales under Miguel's orders.
