History

There are different versions of the Octobots:

The main version is a little metal ball with eight legs, which are controlled mentally by Doctor Octopus via a remote control. They can also be used to attack, to perform different tasks and attached to a person, they can make him or her obey its orders.

The other type of octobot is a giant metallic robot, which can be used to attack huge constructions.

Spider-Man once refit all the Octobots confiscated from Doctor Octopus and kept in the New York Police Precinct to carry an antidote able to reverse the mutations turning all the New York population into Man-Spiders, he humorously renamed them his own "Spider-Slayers".[4]

A Golden Octobot was used by Doctor Octopus to transfer his brain pattern onto Peter Parker and vice versa, thus enabling Doc Ock to become the Superior Spider-Man.[5]

Octavius created countless new Octobots, named Ocktoids, which could combine to form a new set of tentacles. These tentacles connected to his amygdala instead of his old ones which used to connect to his prefrontal lobe as it messed with his personality.[3]

The "Autonomous telepathic tentacles" was an independent variant of Doctor Octopus' Tentacles, created by him to defeat Spider-Man. It was controlled telepathically through a remote control which Doc Ock placed on his head. The Octobot eventually led to his downfall after a young girl named Taina got hold of the remote.[6]

Ultimate Spider-Man (animated series) (Earth-12041)[]

Doctor Octopus used the only known model of the Octobot to chase Spider-Man and take a blood sample from him in order to create the Venom symbiote. It was destroyed during the battle against the arachnid hero.[7]

Marvel Avengers Academy (Earth-TRN562)[]

On Earth-TRN562, Doctor Octopus created his Octobots during his time at Oscorp. This version could fly. After Octavius left the company, Green Goblin took control of the left over Octobots. He changed the color scheme from grey to orange and green and added the ability to explode on contact. He called his variant Goblinbots.[8]
