History

When the Magus, the dark personality of Adam Warlock, sought to conquer the universe, he first paid a visit to Anthropomorpho in the Dimension of Manifestations to create dopplegangers of every superhero on Earth.[1]

One of these doppelgängers was based off Mister Fantastic of the Fantastic Four. Sent to the Four Freedoms Plaza, this evil duplicate of Reed Richards succeeded in defeating Richards.[2] Upon defeating his foe, the evil Richards doppelgänger then merged with Reed and took over his body, leaving nobody aware of what happened.[3] When "Reed" began summoning various groups of heroes to Four Freedoms Plaza to discuss an impending universal menace, his wife the Invisible Woman became suspicious of her husband and quickly realized that he had been replaced with an impostor after checking the Encephalizer device in their headquarters. Sue decided to hold back and see what the impostor was planning before she made her move.[4] The evil Reed gathered the members of the both the East and West Coast Avengers, the X-Men, X-Factor, Alpha Flight, the New Warriors, the Hulk, and Daredevil together to discuss the crisis. Suspecting something was up, Sue's suspicions were confirmed when both Daredevil and Wolverine outed both Mr. Fantastic and Iron Man as impostors. As a battle broke out between the heroes, the evil Reed finished activated a gamma bomb to try and destroy them all.[4][5]

The heroes were rescued thanks to the quick thinking of the Invisible Woman and Thor who were able to deflect the blast into space saving all their lives. The impostors of Reed and Iron Man were rescued by the Magus.[6][7] Later, Sue and other heroes rescued Reed and others who were replaced by impostors.[8] The ultimate fate of the Reed Richards doppelgänger is unknown, but it presumably ceased to exist when the Magus was defeated.
