Quote1 The Spider. It is the most ancient of hunters. Nine hundred and nine years ago, we pledged our blood in the night. May we govern over darkness, the peace of the world our black hands protect. Quote2
Miguel Legar[src]

Miguel Legar, a mage affiliated with the secretive Spider Society the protectors of the Spider-Totems, played a crucial role in empowering Anya Corazón, who later became the superhero Araña. He saved Anya's life by granting her spider-like abilities through a ritual, initiating her as a Hunter for the Spider Society. Throughout Araña's journey, Legar mentored and guided her, aiding in mastering her newfound powers and facing adversaries, notably the Sisterhood of the Wasp. However, a revelation led Anya to renounce her Hunter abilities and depart from WebCorps. Tragically, Legar met his end protecting others from the threats of the Wasps.

History

Early Life[]

Miguel's early life was shrouded in mysticism and magical pursuits. As a talented mage, he honed his skills in the arcane arts from a young age, delving deep into the intricate world of magic. His innate abilities and dedication to the mystical arts distinguished him as a promising talent within the realm of sorcery. His exceptional mastery of magic led to his recruitment by the enigmatic Spider Society, an ancient group dedicated to safeguarding the Spider-Totems and maintaining the delicate balance within the mystic realms. He embarked on regular missions, venturing into various corners of Earth to identify and recruit individuals displaying latent potential or a strong connection to the Spider-Totems. His discerning eye for identifying those worthy of harnessing the spider-like abilities crucial for the Society's cause made him a valuable asset. Amidst his tasks, Legar remained committed to upholding the Society's principles, seeking out individuals with the innate qualities needed to become defenders of the Spider-Totems.[1]

Araña[]

Miguel followed a lead on a "new initiate" to the Santa Monica Pier in LA. He was attacked by an armed gunman; but Miguel had anticipated the attacker stopping the bullet in mid air with a wave of his hand, before covering the distance with a bounding leap and commanding his attacker to sleep. The next day on Anya's first day of school she found herself entangled in a conflict between the Spider Society and the Sisterhood of the Wasp. Severely injured during the skirmish, Anya faced a mortal threat until Legar intervened. In a ritualistic act, Legar bestowed upon her a spider-shaped tattoo that granted her spider-like abilities, effectively making her a member of the Spider Society's cadre of Hunters. Legar's mentorship and initiation of Anya into the Society marked a significant turning point in her life, leading her to embrace her new superhero identity as Araña. Legar, alongside WebCorps operatives Nina Smith and Ted Mankowski, provided guidance and support to Anya as she embarked on her heroic journey.[1]

Araña's Mentor[]

Miguel Legar continued to mentor and assist Anya as she encountered various challenges. Anya discovered the recruitment of a teenager named Amun by the Sisterhood of the Wasp. This revelation, coupled with confrontations and threats posed by Amun, led to moments of doubt for Anya regarding her duty as a Hunter and the risks it posed to her loved ones. Notably, an encounter with the iconic hero Spider-Man reinforced the importance of responsibility in wielding her newfound powers.[2] Legar intervened to prevent Anya from recklessly pursuing personal vendettas against antagonists like Jaime Jade, a criminal with ties to the death of Anya's mother. Legar's guidance and support were instrumental in helping Anya navigate moral dilemmas and confrontations with adversaries.[3]

Death[]

Anya discovered that her exoskeleton and Hunter abilities were not inherent traits but granted artificially. Realizing her true identity and renouncing her ties to WebCorps, Anya relinquished her Hunter abilities to Nina, paving the way for a new chapter in her life. Tragically, Miguel Legar met his demise while protecting Nina from the threats posed by the Sisterhood of the Wasp.[4]
