Synopsis for "Shadowland (Part 1 of 5)"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Shadowland #1

In Japan, three Hand mystics are conversing whether Daredevil will do the unthinkable: corrupt himself. Should he could this despicable act, "The age of man shall end and none be spared but snakeroot!"

Meanwhile, a heavily restrained Bullseye is being transported to the Raft. But Bullseye tells the soldiers guarding him that the Sentry will return and he is the only one who can stop him. But the guards don't take him seriously. Then suddenly, Bullseye goes into cardiac arrest. Though one guard thinks he's faking, his partner frees Bullseye from his restraints and uses the defibrillator on him. But it was a trick, as Bullseye frees himself, kills the guards, before arriving in Daredevil's Shadowland.

At Avengers Tower, the Avengers are getting worried about Daredevil's growing radicalism. The way they see it, there is likely to be a period of instability following the shutdown of H.A.M.M.E.R. Iron Fist also adds that there have been rumors of disappearances in Hell's Kitchen. The Avengers dispatch Luke Cage and Iron Fist to go talk to Daredevil, tell him that he must end his Shadowland business; they won't take no for an answer.

At Shadowland, Bullseye gets Daredevil's attention by killing one of his rooftop sentries. Arriving with an entire contingent of Hand ninjas, Daredevil swear to Bullseye that he won't let him harm another innocent again. But Bullseye easily dispatches all his ninjas. Cage and Iron Fist leap in for some assistance, but Daredevil tells them that unless they swear allegiance to the Hand, they must stay out of this. Daredevil then goes off to confront Bullseye, using brutal methods to take him down, including dislocating his shoulder. He then does the unthinkable: he kills Bullseye with his own sai.

Synopsis for 3rd story

Reprint of the 1st story from
Shadowland #2

Moon Knight, in his civilian guise, concerned about what the Hand did to all the crooks and cops in Hell's Kitchen. To find out, he vandalizes his own cab, at which the Hand ninjas quickly show up.

Meanwhile, at a soup kitchen owned by Iron Fist, he and Luke Cage discuss Daredevil's cold-blooded murder of Bullseye. Granted, he did have it coming, but it was downright wrong and Cage could see that Daredevil felt a bit of regret doing it. And all what he has done was bring fear to the streets and that's going to result in trouble. As it so happens, two patrons are getting into a scuffle, which Cage breaks up. Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, accompanied by civilian-guised Lady Bullseye, enter to say that these men, along with the rest of the customers, are going to be leaving. After a small contest about what Kingpin wants to do during this Shadowland business, he leaves, implying that they may have to take down Daredevil if they are to save Hell's Kitchen.

Inside Shadowland, Tarantula approaches Daredevil, who is feeling no remorse for killing Bullseye. And now, he wants to recruit any costumed heroes and have them swear allegiance to the Hand, so that they may stand against the powers-that-be. If they are not with him, they are against him.

In Midtown, Lady Bullseye have retrieved a scroll for Kingpin from the Hand to summon their bane: the Zugaikotsu. As soon as he enacts the enchantment, something fiery bursts through the windows. He then asks the unknown person to enact vengeance.

Meanwhile, Cage and Iron Fist have gathered other street-level heroes such as Shang-Chi, Misty Knight and Colleen Wing to get inside Shadowland and talk to Daredevil. To do that, they pretended to accept Daredevil's offer of allegiance. When he learns their true intentions, he declares that there's nothing to discuss. Misty argues that if he thinks that he can lock down New York and kick out all the cops, then he needs a reality check. Though Daredevil claims that his ninja are under strict orders not to kill, she challenges his claim, citing what he did to Bullseye. He defends that he was doing what was necessary for the greater good. The other also challenge his claims and state that what he's doing is downright wrong. Even Spider-Man, entering through the rooftops, offers his personal opinion that wearing a black costume never ends wells.

Down in the dungeons, Moon Knight has found that the Hand has locked up police and crooks. He then regurgitates some lock picks he swallowed earlier to escape and find the lay of the land before he releases everyone else. But as soon as he gets out, the Ghost Rider comes riding through the stockade. Learning of this disturbance, Daredevil presumes that his so-called "friends" were plotting against him. He orders his Hand subordinates to take them: dead or alive.

Synopsis for 4th story

Reprint of the 1st story from
Shadowland #3

As the Ghost Rider is fending off the Hand ninjas, Moon Knight decides to further investigate, while the imprisoned cops decide to flee. Meanwhile, upstairs, Daredevil has decided to permanently end the lives of his fellow heroes. And strangely, he demonstrates new types of abilities that his friends are not familiar with, which made his capable of defeating Iron Fist and Shang-Chi. Spider-Man is able to get the drop on him, but Daredevil is able to avoid his webbing, before summoning Typhoid Mary to take him down. As Misty tackles him out of the way, the Punisher bursts in to cover their escape. Once outside, they see the people of Hell's Kitchen going into a riot.

Elsewhere, Lady Bullseye cautions Kingpin of the dangers of summoning the Ghost Rider, who he doesn't take kindly to being used. Kingpin acknowledges this fact, but knows that the summoning scroll she stole will protect them, thereby, the Ghost Rider would have to strike at the heart of the Hand, leaving him to pick up the pieces.

Back at the Shadowland, Daredevil is growing more annoyed with the fact that his so-called friends have plotted a breakout. Despite Tarantula's attempts to reason that he's playing with fire, Daredevil is still concerned with getting more adept fighters. He has Mary accompany him, for they have someone to dig up. Unbeknownst to everyone, Moon Knight is spying from the rafters. Daredevil then finds who he's looking for: Bullseye, whom he intends to resurrect, loyal to the Hand. At the same time, he is approached by Elektra, who offers her allegiance.

The next day, the heroes are wondering how it's possible that Daredevil could best them. From what Iron Fist could guess, that wasn't their friend Matt Murdock they were fighting. The Punisher takes it as an excuse that they need to kill him. The next thing they know, Master Izo pops up, explaining that in his foolish belief that Daredevil could reform the Hand, the Snakeroot cult has made Daredevil a vessel for the Beast of the Hand, who desires nothing but darkness and destruction.
