Incredible Hulk #119

Bruce Banner awakens from a deep sleep and finds himself on the island of Costa Salvador. Finding it becoming increasingly harder to think, Banner stumbles into the village nearby and finds that all the people have been put under a hypnotic trance by a giant statue that is emitting a strange energy beam from it's head. Banner meets a man who is not affected by the device, who tells him that he is the only one with a free will because he serves a being called the "Great One" who lives in a nearby castle, who is responsible for the trances. The free willed local boasts how soon Banner will also be under the Great One's control. Resisting the giant statue's influence, Banner excites himself enough to transform into the Incredible Hulk, scaring away the loyal servant of the Great One. The Hulk then in turn tries to smash the statue, but to no avail. Vaguely remembering what the man had told him, the Hulk bounds over to the castle of the supposed Great One.

As the Hulk approaches the castle, back in the the USA, the President is informed by his men that they have lost contact with the nation of Costa Salvador and fear that it may have fallen to enemy hands. The President then calls General Ross and Major Talbot and orders them to abandon their mission to capture the Hulk and investigate the matter, a request that upset Ross. He complies however, taking his daughter Betty along with him on the mission.

Back in Costa Salvador, we learn that the so called "Great One" is Maximus, the exiled Inhuman prince and his band of evil Inhumans: Aiero, Falcona, Leonus, Nebulo, Stallior and Timberius. Having failed to rule the Hidden Land of the Inhumans, Maximus intends to slowly take over the entire world with similar statues put in strategic locations all over the world, slowly putting everyone under his control. When the local who is loyal to Maximus arrives and warns him of the approaching Hulk, Maximus orders Falcona to kill him, to which she obliges by sending an army of falcons to eliminate him.

While outside, the Hulk tries to gain access to the castle but finds it's protected by a force field barrier. Maximus sends out his evil Inhumans to deal with the Hulk who just then manages to smash through the barrier and gain entrance to the castle. Each member of the Evil Inhumans tries to attack the Hulk on their own, but find their powers woefully inadequate to fight off the Jade Giant and decide to strike together. However, when the military arrives, Maximus decides to try and convince the Hulk to join their cause.

Trying to use their mutual outcast status to gain the Hulks allegiance, the Hulk finds himself caught deciding who is a greater threat to him: the military or the Inhumans?

Daredevil #9

After busting up some crooks that are trying to make an escape through New York harbor, Daredevil gets shot in the arm for all his trouble. Patching up his wound and resuming his civilian guise, Matt Murdock reports for work at his office where Karen informs him that Dr. Van Eych, the doctor who could possibly restore Matt's sight has recently moved to the country of Lichtenbad. They meet with Foggy who is "preparing" for the arrival of a former exchange student/classmate from their post-secondary days named Klaus Kruger who is the Duke of Lichtenbad who is coming to visit. When Klaus arrives, Matt asks him about Van Eych's treatment for the blind, Klaus verifies the claims, and Matt asks to go along because he senses that Klaus is lying about something.

Flying to Lichtenbad, Matt witnesses a botched assassination attempt on the Duke, and all day his radar sense picks up evidence that the Duke runs a dictatorship of oppression over his people. Helping the resistance movement in his Daredevil guise, DD gets into a direct conflict with the Duke and his knights. After freeing the prisoners in the Duke's castle, DD resumes his civilian guise and sees the doctor about his treatment.

While back in the States, Karen's obvious affection for Matt visibly angers Foggy who reacts jealously. Back in Lichtenbad, Matt's treatments are interrupted when Von Eych's treasonous remarks are heard and the knights take him away. Changing back to Daredevil, Matt helps the people of Litchenbad fight off the Duke's men and in a battle with the Duke. The Duke informs him that he will release a Cobalt Cloud to kill everyone, this is overheard by Van Eycht who sacrifices his life to stop this from happening. During the fight with Daredevil, the ends up falling to his death. Daredevil soon realizes that the Dr. sacrificed himself to save everyone.

Back in New York, Karen receives a memo from Matt explaining that the surgery wasn't done, leaving Foggy to jealously assume that Matt chickened out at the last moment.

Fantastic Four #33

Reed Richards examines a massive sea creature which has washed ashore. Suspecting that it may have come from Namor's domain, he dispatches the Human Torch to check along the shoreline for any signs of danger. Torch spots an Atlantean woman rising out of the water and takes her back to the Baxter Building. Sue recognizes her as Lady Dorma, Namor's beloved. She explains that she has come to seek the Fantastic Four's aid, as Atlantis has been attacked by the barbarian hordes of Attuma, a fierce warrior who believes he is destined to rule Atlantis. She admits that she blames herself for Attuma's advantage in battle.

When Dorma expressed her fears of Namor being harmed in battle, he dismissed her. Heartbroken, Dorma then showed Attuma and his minions a way to get past Namor's defenses. Regretting her decision, Dorma rushed to the surface to seek out allies to help stop the invasion, as the surface world would be at risk next.

The Fantastic Four agree to help and with his Oxy-Spray, Reed makes it possible for his teammates to breathe underwater for hours at a time. The spray is so potent that Johnny can even use his flame powers underwater.

As soon as they approach Atlantis in their submarine, the Fantastic Four are attacked by Attuma's hordes and are forced to abandon ship. They battle their way through the soldiers and weapons. Meanwhile, in the kingdom, Namor and his forces fight back against the invaders. When the Fantastic Four arrive, Reed cautions his team to remain hidden, as Namor may also view them as his enemies. Sue uses her invisibility powers to destroy a subsonic weapon. As Namor and Attuma battle, the Fantastic Four secretly keep Attuma's minions from interrupting but eventually, the Oxy-Spray begins to wear off. After Namor destroys Attuma's sword, Attuma surprises him by revealing hidden disintegrator rays. But the Sub-Mariner is given an upper hand in the battle when Sue secretly turns him invisible. Namor subdues Attuma as the Oxy-Spray fully wears off, forcing the Fantastic Four to flee to the surface before Namor can learn how they helped him.

In the aftermath of the battle, Attuma is banished from Atlantis. Later Namor reveals that he knows that Dorma betrayed him, but that he forgives her out of love. Meanwhile, the Fantastic Four are stuck using Reed as a buoy at sea, as they left their submarine below the water. On the way home, Sue calls Reed darling, making him wonder if she has finally forgotten about her feelings for the Sub-Mariner.
