Synopsis for ""A Clash of Titans""

Reprint of the 1st story from
Incredible Hulk #118

The unconscious body of Bruce Banner is found at sea by Lady Dorma who takes the surface dweller back to Atlantis for recovery after giving him a pill that will allow him to breath underwater for 24 hours. Having Banner taken to her chambers for recovery she is spied by Mistress Fara, a rival for Namor's affections. She decides to tell Namor about Dorma's "other man" after a meeting Namor has with Vashti, once again quarrelling over what to do with the surface dwellers. The already angry monarch impulsively storms to Dorma's quarters to confront her over Banner. As the two lovers argue, Banner revives and their fight causes him enough stress to transform into the Hulk.

The Hulk, seeing Namor attacking a girl that helped him, pounces at the undersea monarch. The two fight as both Dorma and Fara witness the battle. During the fight, Dorma is knocked out due to the collateral damage caused by the two titans clashing. Fera decides to try and take this opportunity to kill Dorma so that she can have Namor to himself. Ironically, the Hulk and Namor's fight causes a wall to collapse on the two, Fera being an unwilling shield for Dorma's body, sacrificing her life and protecting Dorma. Namor digs Dorma out and finds that she is still alive, but Fera is dead, unaware of her treachery.

Wanting the battle to end before any of his people can be injured, Namor attacks the still rampaging Hulk and their fight causes massive tidal waves. Eventually, Namor is able to knock the Hulk out of the water and into the sky. Following the plummeting Hulk, the Sub-Mariner finds the battle is over when he discovers the unconscious Hulk transforming back into Bruce Banner and so he retreats back to his kingdom to leave Banner at peace.

Synopsis for "The Stiltman Cometh!"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Daredevil #8

Daredevil saves a woman from an out of control car, however when he hops aboard the speeding vehicle to stop it his radar sense warns him that there is a bomb on board the vehicle. As this is happening, a helicopter carrying a payroll is robbed by a new criminal called Stilt Man. While this is happening, Daredevil manages to drive the car with the explosives into the pier before it can harm anybody else. He soon spots the Stilt Man but is unable to stop him before he can get away.

Later, back in his civilian guise of Matt Murdock, DD is told about Dr. Van Eyck, a doctor from Boston who might be able to restore Matt's lost eyesight by his secretary Karen.

However, before Matt can respond to Karen about if he will seek the treatment, they are interrupted by the entrance of Foggy with Matt's next client Wilbur Day, a former employee of Kaxton Laboratories, where he invented hydraulic lifts which his boss Carl Kaxton had stolen the patents. Murdock then calls Kaxton to tell him that his former employee intends to sue him, a threat which Kaxton encourages them to follow through on.

Later in his Daredevil guise, DD unsuccessfully battles Stilt-Man, who manages to get away once again. Later, when meeting with Wilbur again, Kaxton arrives at the office to contest the lawsuit. While the two argue over who owns the rights to the hydraulic device, Matt notices that one of them is lying due to an irregular heartbeat, but can't figure out which one is the liar because they are too close together.

Following Kaxton as Daredevil, he's quickly shaken off by Kaxton who realizes he's being followed. DD cannot resume his tailing because of reports that Stilt-Man is causing havoc again. He again fails to stop Stilt Man. Returning to Day, the two go to confront Kaxton directly. There they find the hydraulic lifts, which turn out to be Stilt Man's stilts.

Attacked by Kaxton with a gun, Day manages to knock Kaxton out, and then reveals to Murdock that he's really Stilt-Man, and that he came to steal a shrinking device from Kaxton before knocking Murdock out. Taking the device and making a run for it in his stilts, Day is followed by Daredevil and in the battle, the shrinking ray is turned on Day who shrinks so small that he disappears from sight.

Returning to the Nelson and Murdock law office, Matt is confronted by Kaxton, but Murdock tells him that Day has dropped the lawsuit and they decide to let the whole thing go. After, when Karen presses the subject of Matt seeing Dr. Van Eyck to restore his lost vision, Matt tells her that it's too much of a risk causing her to storm out of the room calling Matt a coward.

Synopsis for ""A House Divided!""

Reprint of the 1st story from
Fantastic Four #34

While the FF comment on the Thing's latest gift from the Yancy Street Gang – A Beatles Wig – greedy millionaire Gregory Gideon makes a bet with his competitors: If he cannot defeat the Fantastic Four within a week, he will forfeit his entire fortune to them, but if he succeeds, he gains their wealth.

Gideon's plan starts by convincing the Thing that Reed is really a Skrull imposter, and convincing Sue that Johnny is a robot imposter created by Doctor Doom. Although they clash with each other, they soon realize that they were tricked. They rush to the Baxter Building, unaware that Gideon's men have set up Dr. Doom's time machine in the floor, so that whoever crosses it gets sent to another time.

Gideon's plan ultimately fails because his son Tommy is a big Fantastic Four fan, and when he learns that his father is going to kill his favorite heroes, the boy goes to the Baxter Building to warn them. Tommy walks through the time machine trap, and although the Thing tries to save the boy, the two are transported to another era. After the FF round up the crooks and turn off the time machine, Gideon arrives and begs Reed Richards to bring back his son, and is willing to pay anything to get Tommy back. When the boy appears safe and sound, having been returned to the present when Reed turned off the device, Gideon realizes that in his mad quest for ultimate wealth, he neglected the most valuable thing he had: his family.

After listening to an appeal from his wife, Gideon swears to give his fortune to charity. The Fantastic Four let the Gideon family go, to rebuild their troubled family.
