Doing a great job Matt!

Couldn't ask for anything more. Glad to have you aboard! Let me know if you need anything from me.

Cheers,

On uploading images:

Honestly, I just fooled around a little bit until I found a size that looked good. I still find myself doing it with newer images. All I can suggest is looking around at pictures that are used on the different pages and comparing them to the sizes you use. I know there's a way to shrink down the images on the pages themselves, but I've never taken the time to learn the coding for it. Sorry I couldn't be more help, but I'm still pretty touch and go when it comes to images.

Hey Matt,
Hope you don't mind me jumping in a bit, but I noticed your conversation...
Personally, I have found 2 tricks to scanning images which make them an appopriate size for uploading. 1) Choose .gif over .jpg if possible. 2) Reduce the quality of your upload to about 80% (depending on the scanner). Ultimately, you should be able to clearly view the image at about 400 pixels x 400 pixels. The size can be as large as you want, but keeping it under 200kb allows readers of our pages not to have to wait forever for the page to load. My favourite size is between 80kb and 120kb for a great image.
Once you have uploaded the image, you can modify it in the article itself by using the following code:

& & produce:

Marvel Logo & Marvel Logo & Marvel Logo

By all means, drop me an email if you have more detailed, technical questions... I may be able to help some more...
Cheers! --Jamie 13:54, 5 July 2006 (Eastern Daylight Time)
Great job on the Image:Exclaibur 79.jpg upload. That is perfect! You could even go a bit bigger if you wanted. We can scale it down on the article once it is uploaded. Up to you. :)

Move feature... Edit

Hey Matt!

Wow, I love how you are taking initiative with the disambig pages... They needed a bit of work!

Just wanted to mention that you copied and pasted Black Marvel to Black Marvel (Daniel Lyons), but you could have saved a few clicks... There is a 'move' feature at the top of every page. This is also preferred so that we can keep the articles history and hit-counter properly intact.

No worries, just for future. :)

Regards,

--Jamie 01:13, 1 August 2006 (Eastern Daylight Time)

AoA ? Edit

I noticed you started Starjammers (AoA). Are Starjammers (AoA) and Starjammers different teams? --EarthFurst 22:12, 16 October 2006 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Yay SynopsesEdit

I just wanted to say that its great seeing someone else working on issue synopses on a regular basis. I consider that the most important part of this database - all the character and team pages and the like are just reference pages meant to sort the information from the multitude of comics and storylines into character storylines. The comic summaries are themselves the raw data. And your summaries are quite excellent. (Oh if i only had a scanner). --Squirrelloid 06:58, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Trust me, I agree wholeheartedly that the summaries are very important! It seems that we are the only 2 that are getting this done. I started to put down just quick synopses but then I thought that was not enough and decided the full story approach. I think you are doing a good job too and I kinda copied your style of putting the references on there. I would like it if we could come up with a very common style that we could use on the default pages so that they all seem to flow instead of one comic being in depth and the others being, well, lacking. I think we should collaborate and come up with a common editing field for the comics. Any suggestions? :M1shawhan 16:32, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Maybe you guys should move this conversation to the forums, so it will be easier to talk.
Let me know what you guys come up with for the 'best practice' and we will make it a 'policy'.
Great work guys!
--JamieHari 16:46, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
I like the format I'm currently using. I don't know anything about fields, but if someone wants to make using my format easier... go for it? I could post the 'template' of what I'm using in the forums.
At some point i'll need to go back and redo a lot of my early synopses, which are really far too short. But that can wait until I've given all the synopsis-lacking comics I own a synopsis, since at least they *have* one.
If this discussion turns into an actual discussion about formatting, we probably should move it to the forums. I'm not sure its there yet. --Squirrelloid 18:01, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Done. The link for the discussion is: http://forums.marveldatabase.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=559&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

ThanksEdit

Hey M1shawhan!

Thanks for backing up my suggestion. Copycat989 09:22, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

No problem. I would just like to see a lot of tidying up before we have a huge influx of people who come across the site since it is more mainstream now...but yeah, I think we should definitely update the templates and I think the people who post the most should get together and come up with a general "theme". --BTW, Wow on the image pages and galleries!
--M1shawhan 09:57, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
You're right about the tidying up but that it's going to take some time. And thanks for the compliments about the character galleries. I've noticed that you've uploaded a lot of images I haven't seen before. Nice work!
Copycat989 11:37, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Todo Edit

Keep everyone on our toes, eh? he he he
We have needed someone to help us with that for a long, long time... :)
--JamieHari 17:00, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Thought you would like that... ;)

New Character TemplateEdit

Wow Matt the new character template looks great! When will it be up? Copycat989 18:36, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm awaiting approval and any other suggestions or otherwise. Hopefully soon, and then I will work on a comic template. Get your ideas in and I will submit it similar to the way I did this one. -- M1shawhan 20:49, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!Edit

2007...I thought we were supposed to be in hovercrafts and have robots doing everything for us...or running the world! What happened??? --M1shawhan 06:21, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Happy New Year to you too (in a few hours...)!
I guess 'reality' happened. :(
How boring...
--Jamie 06:31, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
Wait, it just became Dec 31... its not new years yet (new year's eve, barely)... Where do you live? The Solomon Islands or something? --Squirrelloid 06:39, 31 December 2006 (UTC), in confusion.
With or without hovercrafts and robots I wish you all a Happy New Year, the timezones are not that important :)!

Forums?Edit

Have you managed to log in yet? I can't. :( Copycat989 07:27, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

No, I try not to bother Jamie, and I am sure he knows about it, but I have not heard anything and I think that it is outside of the wiki so I don't think I should contact wikia about this. What do you think? --M1shawhan 17:47, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

WowEdit

I was looking on the recent changes page... and there you were merging all the articles. Wow you must have great editing skills to merge them so fast. BTW I use yahoo messenger all the time and I've added you to my list. :) Copycat989 05:42, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

PollEdit

Already using it =) Check out Uncanny X-Men 165 for instance. --Squirrelloid 19:51, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Looks greatCopycat989 21:24, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Merge indexEdit

Hi Matt!
How can I bring an article to the merge index from wikipedia without loosing their contributors list?
Cheers Copycat989 07:29, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

From what I have seen, you can do it multiple ways. I think there is some "preferred way", but if you link it like such:

<!-- Wikipedia credits --> {| align=center border=0 cellpadding=3 cellspacing=3 style="border: 1px solid #E0E0E0; background-color: #F8F8F8" |- | style="font-size: 90%" | This page uses content from the English Wikipedia. The original content was at Ben Urich. The list of authors can be seen in the page history. As with the SITENAME, the content of Wikipedia is available under the GNU Free Documentation License. |} <!-- Wikipedia credits -->

(and take that from the edit page) then you will get the effect you are looking for. Let me know, but I think that the best thing is not to bring the copyrighted material over because then it HAS to be fixed. I am running into this A LOT while doing the mergers and it is VERY annoying. Rather than bring the entire page over (unless ours has nothing), I will usually just bring over what we don't have and ignore the rest of the history. However, I link the external links and references so we can easily get the same info and still put it in our own words. Besides that, I am not a big fan of the Wikipedia pages over our format for what we are doing. Let me know if this makes any sense. --M1shawhan 17:33, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Yes it makes sense. Thanks Matt. I was thinking we don't have all the Marvel movies and video games here and I wanted to bring them. I've noticed you're done with 70% of the merges. Cool! Copycat989 19:06, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

At the top for sanityEdit

Damn you, you got to make the vehicle appearances category! (I've only done 28 issues of Uncanny X-Men - not a single one of them has had a hyperlinked vehicle!) --Squirrelloid 05:15, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

MWAHAHAHA!!! --M1shawhan 05:17, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

TemplatedEdit

I made an example page here, i'll do one more on a page that has an image soon. I also made some comments about the template having seen it in action on its talk page. --Squirrelloid 21:14, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I've made some modifications to the Infobox template - check out Uncanny X-Men 150 and see what you think? --Squirrelloid 21:37, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

I like...let me see something --M1shawhan 21:39, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
On the recent modification - Text of the Story Title could be a little bigger, other text may be too big. Looks like a good width for comic images, let me whip up an example. --Squirrelloid 21:55, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

On the new format - i like. I'm going to rearrange so Recommended Readings preceeds See Also, if thats ok. My only objection is the Title Volume Issue etc... section looks a little weird. I think my brain wants it in a different font - oh well, you can't have everything you want. --Squirrelloid 22:11, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Re: Different Size or New Font - Probably a different font. Maybe just make that one line's text a little smaller. I don't know. It looks a little funny the same size and font as the credits below it - I'm going to try a size change and see how it looks. I'll post here when i've done it. (This conversation is going to be totally uninterpretable to anyone who's not us, and probably not even us in like a week, awesome - splitting conversations between pages is a great idea!) --Squirrelloid 22:16, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
How does that look? Convenient link: Uncanny X-Men 150 --Squirrelloid 22:18, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Maybe make the previous and next (and the issue links) the same size as the comic publication info? (12px). --Squirrelloid 22:22, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Probably doesnt need to be brought down as far at its new size =) --Squirrelloid 22:26, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Infobox looks stellar. Awesome. --Squirrelloid 22:31, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Did you mean to bring the TOC back? I'm not totally convinced I like it. We could move the infobox up a little (its ok if it causes the quote to wrap) if removing the TOC doesn't leave enough list space to put the synopsis below the infobox. --Squirrelloid 22:28, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I think we're finished... for now. Yay, Comic template! --Squirrelloid 22:34, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
The template looks great. Saw your earlier discussion and I uploaded the front cover to Uncanny X-Men 150. Copycat989 07:25, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Hey M1 - saw your request in the forums. How does Uncanny X-Men 170 look - ie, see infobox, i've hyperlinked Uncanny X-Men as Comics Uncanny X-Men|Uncanny X-Men. I don't see any other good way to do that unless the index pages really are logically named with respect to the comic title. And given some of them have to specify the volume for the page to exist, I doubt thats true. --Squirrelloid 15:47, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Here's what I was trying to do...1. what you did and that is good so it can link back to the main comics page. 2. There is a link to go to the Cover gallery -- We cannot use the PAGENAME link because it would add in the comic#. Therefore, I was wanting to link it to the name of the comic title that we input in the infobox. This way, as long as someone puts in the right name for the title it would work. Just not sure on what we need or how to link to the comic title in the infobox. Any suggestions? --M1shawhan 20:05, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
This is only possible if you want the link to display on the infobox. The page that uses the infobox cannot access the variables inside the infobox template. --Rebelheart 09:05, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
If you want to standardize the link back to the comic issue index, we'd have to either depend on people typing the whole thing themself (ie: $IndexPageName|$ComicTitle). Alternately, if all comic indices are named as Comics $Title, we could take the title field and automatically insert it into {Title}. That would solve 1. On 2 - I think we have to depend on people adding that separately. I know I have been. Alternately, the logical way to do it in the infobox would have clicking on the cover image send you to the cover gallery - its probably possible to do that, but hell if i know. (Note we can't reference the infobox template variables outside of the infobox - Rebelheart is dead on.) --Squirrelloid 17:44, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
GRRRRR...was worth the try anyway. Guess we will have to manually input it then. --M1shawhan

Movie/Cartoon templateEdit

Hi Matt! Should we make a Movie/Cartoon template or we should use the format we got from wikipedia on those? Copycat989 20:48, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

I say make it personalized. Yes though, I think we need one and since you seem to have taken it over, I say make it your baby and let us know if you need any help with it. -- M1shawhan 20:51, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Ok, but I shall need your help. I'll star by copying the infobox from the comic template. After all, I must live up to my name :). Copycat989 21:00, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
What do you think of an infobox with this data?

Copycat989 21:17, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

I like it. I am confused though on the differences between Creator and Developer...Also, you may want to make sure that it is a different color than the comic template. Other than that, like it a lot! -- M1shawhan 21:22, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
I finally had some free time to work on the template. http://www.marveldatabase.com/User:Copycat989/CartoonFilmTemplate What do you think of it? Feel free to add more to it :) Copycat989 09:55, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
  • Looks Good! I would put page breaks <br> after the Synopsis and other headers to make sure that it evens them out and you may even center the Image with |center after the image name but I like it. I wish that Jamie would ok off on some stuff but he must be waylaid with wedding planning...HA, so I am all for it! --M1shawhan 01:15, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Scoop Comics Newsletter Edit

Do you subscribe to Scoop? It is a great comics newsletter. Here's the link: http://scoop.diamondgalleries.com/signup/

It has lots of info on old comic books and new! ^_^

That darned Image Needed tag...Edit

Yeah, I totally missed that (added a few cover images myself, and went through and made sure all the covers we had on issue pages were on the Cover Gallery page - found quite a few that weren't!). Thanks for catching those. --Squirrelloid 06:32, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Excalibur 86Edit

Did you do that up so we could see what the new template looks like?

I really dislike the formatting of information around the comic image. Hard to say much else since it's clearly incomplete. --Squirrelloid 07:36, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Civil War Timeline Edit

You sir are my hero! That was fast - thanks man! TimothyPilgrim 20:18, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

tabs Edit

Check out the Grimm pages with that adjustment. You can specify exactly what pages you want directly in the template call. Chadlupkes 16:04, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Who watches the Watcher...? Edit

Ok, couldn't think of a snappy heading.

Thanks for the welcome message, this place is going to take some getting used to with its crazy wiki formatting.. HTML was enough for my lil blonde brain to cope with.. but I'll conquer it, you WILL see a table on my profile soon, this swears Doom!

Oh.. my inner meglomaniac is showing again, please excuse me..

User:Zombies8MDingo

I dunno, that was actually a great response! once you work with it is is not as bad as it "looks"...well..ok, it's somewhat that bad but not completely! Who does watch the watcher? Good question! --M1shawhan 23:15, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

My user page Edit

Please delete my user page (not blank, but delete). I prefer a redlink on wikis that I work on. Also, please delete Image:J. Michael Straczynski 001.jpg. It is a copyright violation originally falsely tagged as GFDL. The image has been replaced in the JMS article with a true free (GFDL) image. --Jeffrey O. Gustafson 20:41, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Done! Thanks for the heads up. I would suggest that you add something to your userpage, so that there are no redlinks on pages that you don't work on, like the recent page listing. Thanks! --M1shawhan 23:28, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. --Jeffrey O. Gustafson 23:46, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
No problem at all. Let me know if you need anything else. --M1shawhan 23:56, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Team template Edit

Hey!
Wanna have a peek at the prototype of the New Team Template for me? Here is my test page.
Let me know what you think...
--Jamie 04:45, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

ThanksEdit

I appreciate your nice words about my hard work. I think I'm getting addicted to this thing! At first, I had trouble distinguishing what the rules or guidelines were, but now I'm getting the hang of it, so sorry for any of my early mistakes. I'll do what I can to go back and fix them. It's my understanding that we're going with "Earth-295" instead of "Earth-AoA"? I wish we'd nail these things down sooner rather than later, I'm chompin at the bit! --Nathan 20:45, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

HAHAHA! I know. You are not doing anything "wrong" at all. Keep up the edits and I know how it feels. There is a LOT of cleanup so we can implement these changes. One thing I will suggest too -- Before we make any more name changes we are trying to compile a list and get input on the name changes before we do them. See: Squirrelloid/Master_Name_List. See if you can catch some of the ones we have boldened or put your thoughts down...(Squirrelloid won't mind...hehe!) Once we get a handle on what names we are looking at for a letter. say "Z" for instance, then we can go through the entire letter and move over all pages (not just redirect). This way we can also track the changes that have been made from the main list (since some of the pages have already been moved it is hard to track them). Let me know what you think, or if you are even reading this.  ;) -- M1shawhan 03:08, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Thank You Edit

Thanks for the nice comments. I hopefully will be adding more to other heroes histories but Im more familiar with Dazzler. Ill try and do my best.

Curious Edit

What was the purpose of the change to the Character Template?
Was it a bug? Should I change that at the DC Database too?
Cheers!
--Jamie 17:41, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Having it the other way was causing a "==" to appear at the end of the heading for the customsection2 line. I looked at the template and made it the same as the above for the CustomSection1 and saved and then tried it again on the test page I was working on and it cleared up the issue?!?!? Gladly, I didn't make any real "changes" to the template itself. Sorry that I didn't note my changes because I truthfully did not think it would change a thing but it worked. :) --M1shawhan 20:04, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
I love when something I am trying totally works out on the first try. ;)
I will try and make that same change elsewhere as well, to fix that 'bug'.
Cheers!
--Jamie 23:35, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!Edit

I really appreciate how nice all you long-term editors are on here. It's so rare to find online communities full of nice people. And thanks for the moving tip. I've used it a little, but there are a few times when it wouldn't work, so I'd just cut and paste. If you happen to see anything else about the pages I've been attempting to fix, I'd appreciate the constructive criticism!
Thanks again! Peteparker 05:01, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

She-Venom Edit

You was the last person in modifide the Merge: She Venom page and maybe you're the right person to fix it 'cuase currently it loocks like a Wikipedia's article. This page also have some missed images but I already found all of them in this direction: [www.answers.com/topic/she-venom]. Please do it when you have time (right now).

Yep, it was I that created the change...to the categories. It is exactly like the Wikipedia page. As are most of the pages that say "Merge:". I will do this when I get a chance or, if you would like, you can go ahead and work on the merging of the pages yourself. You can also see what changes people make by clicking on the history of a page. If you would also like (and I would recommend ALL who read this, go to this page and work on the merging of the pages at your own leisure (Merge:Index). By all means, have at it...I have worked about 80% of the pages and it is a daunting task that I cannot do alone. Thanks for the heads up and the accusations, but I will work on them when I can. --M1shawhan 01:00, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
I worked on this page as quickly as I could. It had to be split into a disambiguation page and then the Merge page was pulled over to both true articles separately. Then it had to be corrected, templated, and in some cases deleted. On Patricia Robertson, I did not get to much other than her copy and I marked it to priority Copy Edit. This should be looked at within the next few days by other editors who monitor this queue. Let me know if anything else needs to be done and we will work/mark it as necessary. --M1shawhan 02:23, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Wow, impatient, poor english, and doesn't seem to understand how wikis work. Surely that couldn't have been the author of the wikipedia page - you'd think s/he'd know more about wiki functionality... and, well... typing. --Squirrelloid 08:26, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Only one MORE reason we should not copy and paste from Wikipedia. Not that my grammar is "exquisite" (you like that..eh??), but I at least try on the spelling to make up for it. Many of the merge pages have been copies and I will be very happy when they are all done. They are the bane of my existence. Wow, I loathe them. Hear that Jamie....LOATHE! ;) --M1shawhan 01:48, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
I hear all. ;)
--Jamie 02:51, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
GOOD...and yet creepy =( --M1shawhan 03:00, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

MultiverseEdit

Thanks for the assist, you're right, I really didn't write any of that article, just merged it with two others. Do you happen to know what the infringement issues are? I really want to jump in there and set it all right, but I just don't know what to fix. I looked at the other two sites Jamie mentioned, but couldn't find exactly what the issues are. I'm chompin at the bit!Peteparker 20:11, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

From what I saw, there was not that much that COULD be fixed. What I would do is go through and see if you can add/delete any info from each universe. If you can, then at least this would help the infringement of the page. One other thing I would do is make sure there was a link or at least reference to the Wikipedia Multiverse page on that one so that way the copy of that page is at least apparent. Other than that, I would help out as much as you can with the naming pages on Squirrelloid's page. This will at least make the transition of the naming happen much sooner. --M1shawhan 02:39, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Robert JacobsEdit

What's up with this guy? Isn't this against local policies?

Merges Edit

Wow,
You really flew with those merges!
Once again, I don't know what we'd do without you. ;)

I am just wanting to be done with them. (sighs) Someday! --M1shawhan 17:38, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Don't Worry Edit

There's no problem, I have a very good english (I think), you don't have to speak to me in spanish, it is just formalities with Jamie, tought he speak like drunk.

Ah, and one more thing, Can you erase the "Category: Warned Users" of my discussion page?

How about. . . Edit

No...but I did anyway. ;) --M1shawhan 04:17, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Rewrite 'Spaceknights (ROM)'Edit

My suggestion is to remove teh '(Rom)' designation for this team page. Because there are three distinct generations listed in the disambiguation pages, listing ROM himself does not seem appropriate. I am attempting to rework the histories and associated items with the Galadorian Spaceknights. WizArtist 16:56, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

I could not come up with a better name. I put it to that to designate, I think, that this version was specifically from ROM comics. I agree it should probably be named something different. PLEASE help in coming up with a suiting name and I will change it to it. Message me back and let me know. --M1shawhan 23:09, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
My preference would be "Spaceknights (First Generation)" as there are already pages setup for second and third gens. That would be appropriate and consistent and will then have links to the Rom page.WizArtist 05:11, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
Done! I also changed the layout a little to mesh with the site a little better and as a template if you need to use one for the future. Let me know if I can help out further. --M1shawhan 23:16, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Images for Deletion, if you please...Edit

Please delete the covers to Uncanny X-men 422 (I cropped it poorly) and 395,396, and 399 (Those images are textless covers and I think there is a place for them already. I have the textful?(real word?) cover images ready to upload. --Artful Dodger 08:32, 8 August 2007 (UTC???Probably not)

Done, Done, Done...and Done. Sweet images by the way! --M1shawhan 23:09, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Many thanks for the deletes. All Uncanny X-men titles now have a cover image and a page to go with them. Whew! What work. Thanks for the help and the praise. --Artful Dodger 01:50, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Anytime! We definitely like to promote great work and I think you did what takes most of us a while to do. Plus everyone on here will definitely appreciate the images. I posted that image button question on the forums...we'll see what can be done. In fact, let me check for any responses now! ;) --M1shawhan 04:00, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Race Template!Edit

What can you find that is wrong with this template? Just treat it like a VERY boring Where's Waldo! Here's the Test page. ; ) --Peteparker 22:10, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

PS Can you move Quasar (Wendell Vaughn (Earth-616)/Gallery to Wendell Vaughn (Earth-616)/Gallery for me? Spanks a bunch!--Peteparker 22:51, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

PPS Is there more than one Wolverine in AoA? Just wondering why we've got a Wolverine (Holocaust) (Earth-295)--Peteparker 23:02, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Done and yes...I tried to name it so that I would not try to delete it again (I've marked it 5 times or so to be deleted). It IS a completely different Wolverine. Marvel made the mistake of naming him Wolverine and Wolverine Weapon X in the AoA universe...sheesh...
I really like the your race template. I am sure Jamie will want to make his own, but definitely bring it up on the forums and he will probably use yours as a template for his...template. I also did not realize that Nathanonians were able to do so much...just kiddin' ;) --M1shawhan 23:13, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

FirefoxEdit

Hey man, I'm about to give up on Internet Explorer 7, it's WAY too buggy for me, and I can't figure out what's wrong with it. I switched over to Firefox for now. My question is, (if you know), I used to hit alt-s on IE to save the page, but I can't do that on Firefox. Do you know the shortcut, by chance?--Peteparker 08:24, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Should be Ctrl+S -- I like Firefox MUCH MORE personally. And it now comes with a handy little spellchecker. --M1shawhan 00:18, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
I tried it, but no luck. In IE7, I could start editing with Alt-E and enter, and I could save or preview the page with alt s and alt p. I could also do a search or go straight to a page by using the little search bar up in the top right hand corner. I'm not finding the same things on firefox yet. It's pretty frustrating. I was going to post this all on the forums to see if other people had some tips+tricks, but the forums seem to be down again.--Peteparker 04:47, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
Edit = Alt+Shift+E
If you run your mouse over the options (edit, move, delete....etc) mine shows me tips and has the commands in there. Try it and let me know if yours does the same. --M1shawhan 16:25, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
There it is! Alt+Shift works for all of em. Like Alt+Shift S for Save, Alt Shift P for preview etc. Thanks man!--Peteparker 19:25, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

DeadpoolEdit

In the Naming Conventions, it says that Deadpool's real first name is Jack, but it's not even an alias on the article. What are we supposed to use?--Peteparker 03:28, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Naming ConventionsEdit

For people without full real names, we're using codenames and partial real names in parenthesis. Do we still add the Earth Designation? Ex: Magneto (Magnus) (Earth-616), Vertigo (Savage Land Mutate) (Earth-616). In the case of Vertigo, does the earth designation come first or after the explaination? As it's written now, we only provide earth designations if the full real name is available. And I think that EVERY character has an earth designation, especially if they appeared in a comic next to a major player. So, in theory, there won't be any characters on here that don't have an earth designation in their title, right? (Just trying to get it all straight again)

Oh, and I completley stopped making real names and codenames links. I was more worried about if the template changes in the future, but your reason is just as valid. : ) --Peteparker 20:28, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Short answer is that there is no answer. :)
I personally like the way you said it, Vertigo (Savage Land Mutate) (Earth-xxx). In this regards, she is seen in more than one universe, I assume, so an Earth-xxx would be needed. For those who are not in another universe then I don't see any reason to put the Earth-xxx. HOWEVER, should you be preemptive on putting the designations I don't think anyone would complain.
The only bad thing is that the Earth-designations may throw off newbies (in fact it may be already...have not heard any feedback yet). Because of that, I would not put them on everyone, especially people like "Joe Schmoe (Dummy) (Earth-616)". He would most likely not be rolled over into other alternate universes (Although, you never know with Marvel) ;) --M1shawhan 01:13, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Updated Character ListEdit

I didn't exactly get what you were getting at until I read the summary on Edlicious' talk page. I think it's an EXCELLENT idea, and would be really great in practice. I am a little worried about another list that doesn't get updated (Since Squirrel's doesn't seem to be). I realized how many changes I've made recently, and started to go back through and fill out the old list as best I can. I can Imagine how out of date it's become recently, but starting over from scratch sounds pretty scary to me. I bet I just need to see it in action to become a fast believer!

PS, I'm Glad you like the getting rid of distinguishes idea. Jamie is more hesitant, but that's probably because He's seen good ideas like this one turn out bad. Check out his user talk page to see what he said verbatim. In the meantime, I've stopped doing it just in case the templates get changed to automatically make the codenames and real names links later on down the line.--Peteparker 06:34, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
I saw the comments and he just wants it to be easily manageable by everyone, new or old. Which is fair, but one nice thing is that if he DOES add it to the list of things to do with the template then it will be easy to add/remove and maybe we can even make it collapsible which might be a good route to take with it first.
As far as the updates on the list. The nice thing is that it really isn't "starting over" I am re-downloading the new lists from "Category:Characters". This will catch all the pages that have already been moved and/or created since his page was made. It also uses the notes from Squirrell's page, PLUS adds missed characters from the marvunapp.com page. This way, we can have a head start on the pages that aren't even made yet. --M1shawhan 23:47, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
It will definately be interesting to see where the distinguish situation will end up now that there's more ideas on the table. I wish the forums were up so we could all talk about it.
In that case, (All that extra work you're doing), awesome. You guys are sure great at taking wild ideas for this site and making them into reality. I'm continuously impressed.--Peteparker 04:41, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
It's all up to you guys! It's mainly your ideas and stuff that Jamie and the group brings to the table and we all play around with the idea and manipulate it the way it's needed to make it work. The forums is another issue. I am not sure what's the problem there. For 2 days I thought it was my computer. Wouldn't surprise me if it was...but I suppose it is a link or site maintenance problem. Jamie hasn't responded to you bout it yet and I have not seen him for a while to bring it to his attention. Though trust me, if it is a maintenance issue, he'll be well aware of it ;) --M1shawhan 17:16, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Captain AmericaEdit

What do you think of the centering in the gallery?

What do you also think of losing the Distinguishes and leaving it up to the reader to click on the various codenames and real names to go to the disambigs? Now that we're having disambigs for most names (Unless there's only one), the links might be easier. Plus, I think it looks prettier. Check Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), but ignore the Move statement.--Peteparker 19:54, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

I have been trying to center the entire grouping FOREVER!!!! and it seems a little too easy to do it. Sweet - I think this is great. The codenames on the article is a great idea (pass this one to Jamie and the group, but I am sure it will be ok'd. I also wanted to shoot you a line - if you haven't seen already, I am trying to come up with a way to handle the naming thing. Squirrelloid's page is becoming obsolete since the moves are not being monitored as we had hoped. I created this. Check it out and let me know what you think! --M1shawhan 00:47, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Ok, Try this oneEdit

Can you move She-Hulk (Disambiguation) into She-Hulk? You big ol' adminy, you.--Peteparker 03:54, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Minor:Janet van Dyne (Earth-58163)Edit

What's up with this picture? It's in the template, but it's still gi-normous. The template is set to 100px, right?--Peteparker 02:14, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

I know. I couldn't fix it at the time. Hmmm...we may need to re-upload it. --M1shawhan 02:33, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Remember, 100px means 100px wide, which doesn't help much unfortunately if the image is tall and skinny. :(
--Jamie 04:10, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

FINALLY!Edit

I get it! I understand why there's a difference between the disambig for the codename and the real name! I can't believe it took me so long to understand, and I have no idea why, but I get it, finally. Thanks. Sorry, I'm just excited.--Peteparker 21:36, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

James MadroxEdit

Thanks! So should I add the "fix me" to the Character Appearances Category still? Or were you just saying to do that in the future with other moves?--Peteparker 23:38, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Future -M1shawhan 03:03, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Sweet!Edit

Are we moving already? I didn't know if we needed squirreloid's list finalized before any changes.--Peteparker 18:53, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

We are starting with his "priority page". Finding all the available Earths and doing those first...then we will mass move once the other designations are done. Slow going is the name of the game...be sure when you create a page, try to use the format Squirrelloid uses (I have tried my best to follow). Be sure to note any of the links that are on the page (quotes, appearances, etc) and move those as well as only the article and the talk page will move with a "move" edit. I have been using the main disambig as the codename with "other" similar codename users on that page, then only the given named disambigs have that given named character - This has been the most daunting part of the move so far. One more thing - choose the Earth designations wisely. I have found some to be a little more than straight-forward. Earth-616 is always the main one to use and should be the moved page title. --M1shawhan 23:47, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
So the people on the priority page and all of their alternate versions get pages moved/made/and fixed before anyone else, that I get. I was thinking we could also just hit the "what links here" thing and go to those pages to change them to the right names. Sounds like disambigs galore, but such is life, right? Any problems with finding the appearances and making them correct? We might as well have our own talk page on here! I'm trying to figure out how to use a messenger, but I haven't used one since my AOL days. --Peteparker 02:21, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!Edit

I just noticed that it'd been an exact year for you on the site on the wika stats on the 23rd! Celebrate your accomplishment! Well, just thought I'd tell ya. --Peteparker 22:12, 25 June 2007 (UTC)(Better late than never)

Hooray!!! Has it been THAT long?? It really does go by faster the older you get...lol --M1shawhan 01:22, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

More Crazy QuestionsEdit

Comic Articles I'm running into quite a few comic articles that don't have any information in them whatsoever. What's the best plan of action? Should they be Comic Stub'd, or 'd, or just put a blank Comic Template in them? Some of them don't even have anything linking to them.--Peteparker 04:11, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Pardon my intrusion guys, but I might like to give my two cents...:)
(This type of question is probably best to be asked on the forums)
Might I suggest a 3rd option? (Instead of using a stub or deleting the page outright)
Could we instead change the page to an empty template?
The reason I say this is that the template handles all the formatting to keep the page small and neat.
As well, it is MUCH more inviting for a new user who wants to add a small piece of info.
(If they don't know the templates exist... it is a much more daunting task to create an article from scratch. No?)
If you disagree, please post it in a new thread on the forums so everyone can give their feedback as well... :)
Cheers!
--Jamie 06:04, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
What would be the purpose of the new template? Or I guess...what would the new template be? a deleted/stub template? I am not following what you're thinking...--M1shawhan 00:54, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
I don't think he meant a new template, just a blank existing template. I also put this convo in the forums for everyone's enjoyment.--Peteparker 22:38, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Courtesy Call on the White PhoneEdit

Just a courtesy note to let you know I added a to your pages: M1shawhan/Test Page and M1shawhan/DisambiguationList to get em off the Special:Uncategorized pages list. --Peteparker 17:22, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

NOOOOOOO...ok --M1shawhan 23:42, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Ho Man!Edit

When did this new |OtherMedia thing come into play? I totally did at least 15 of those changes about two hours ago! Oh how I wish I'd known. Maybe one day when I see those again, I'll fix em all.

As far as the Error page, I suggested to CopyCat and Jamie a different page in it's place, explaining the reason for the delay and how much time would be left. I think one (or both) of them is planning on emailing Wikia about it, since it really has nothing to do with this site alone. I thought it'd just be nice to know what's going on when it happens. Plus, pretty much the bulk of the moves will be up to you admin guys once the name stabilization comes into play. Norms like me can only do about 2 every five minutes or so.--Peteparker 02:04, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

HAHAH...norms -- no one told me that I left normality when I took on this admin job ;)
I suggest marking pages like the templates as "watched" and then when you start editing briefly look at the watchlist and see if there are any updates. This is my only way...unfortunately I have every page that I edit marked to be watched and it takes up most of my time when I first get in to look them all over. I saw most of your edits on the OtherMedia thing this way and have made some of the changes that I could see. Just a few more to go...and nothing big if we miss em, just won't get updated with any other "changes" we roll out unless they we have the info embedded in the template. LOL...norms! --M1shawhan 02:09, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing my othermedia stuff. I'll be a good little normie from now on, I swear! Hahaha.--Peteparker 16:48, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Cleanup on isle 4Edit

Thanks for cleaning up all my little category and definition pages. A lot of those were from the first two weeks or so that I was on here. If I knew where you found them, I'd fix them myself! PS I maintain that the use of BFF is funny, but agree that it is a completely unnecessary article on this site. ; ) --Peteparker 15:03, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

HAHA...I just thought it was funny that I even knew what was meant by the BFF title. I found them on the Special:Specialpages under "uncategorized pages". It's no big deal. Actually, have at some of those special pages...they're uh..special ;) --M1shawhan 00:43, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
What's up with these? I fixed them all, but they stay on there. How does the list get refreshed?--Peteparker 03:20, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
From what I have seen there are some pages that will not update till the nightly poll on the server. I think it usually runs about 1am or so (my time CST). --M1shawhan 00:54, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

ThanksEdit

Thanks for the Advice. --User:MutantKingMagneto (UTC)

I hope I'm not being rude but, you know the talk page about the Brotherhood, well in a way it was kinda wierd to me cuase it felt like the Onslaught page but we changed spots. Just saying. --User:MutantKingMagneto.

I don't understand what you mean? Do you mean that the Talk:Brotherhood of Evil Mutants is the same discussion as Talk:Onslaught (Psychic Entity)?
No, I meant that on the Talk:Onslaught (Psychic Entity) I helped you understand better right? Well on the Talk:Brotherhood of Evil Mutants you gave me advice, andI was just saying that, because I have been on most of the Talk's and it is kind of just like I agree or I don't.Oh yeah and I'm sorry (I saw what I did to the talk page and I deleted what I did and put on again an it was still like this. User:MutantKingMagneto

HeyEdit

I see someone is quite busy editing ;) Copycat989 17:06, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Firsts/Etc.Edit

Thanks for the tip, I'm still 100% sure what gets inserted automatically and what doesn't, but I'll leave those two things out now too. (That's what I get for not checking the usage page routinely) If you put the mutant link somewhere in their origins, does it put the category at the bottom? How about all the other things they could be, like cyborg, robot, etc? Are there plans on making the other templates as magic as the character one? The team one could use some magic I think.

As for the specials on the comics pages, that's a tough one. We'd want to make those semi-routine, since the first/last appearances of characters are more likely to get a complete comic article than the random ones inbetween. I agree that it doesn't look great right now, but it's hard to say what would make it better. It would be nice if First and Lasts to be separate sections, but I don't think they warrent their own chapter headings. I suppose the easiest way that still looks decent is to just change the "first appearance" wording to italics, (ie Comics:Excalibur Vol 1 1), but it's not anything fancy. Were you trying to figure out something more fancy? Do you think we could insert your Featured Characters spiel into the template as a guide? Like so:
Featured Characters:

  • Team
    • Team Member
  • Non Team Member Special remark (First/Last App)

Supporting Characters:

Villains:

Other Characters:

Locations:

  • Loch Daemon

Items:

Vehicles:

Yes, fancy would be the appropriate thinking. I really thought it was "hard to see" and bold/italics didn't do the trick. I tried even colors of the font and you know the downfall and confusion of that. In regards to the template use...I don't think I ever thought about using it for that...but I guess that IS what it is supposed to be used for..a template..go figure ;) - I will bring it up on the forums and see what comes of the suggestion. Thanks! --M1shawhan 23:37, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Marvel Heroes (Fantasy Flight Games)Edit

Hello M1shawhan, some time ago you asked me about the Marvel Heroes boardgame by Fantasy Flight Games. I just finished the english translation of my review - if you are still interested, you can find it here. I guess, after reading the review there won't be any questions left ;) Incredible Nightcrawler 07:56, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Sweet! Thanks...I will look at it right now! :) --M1shawhan 23:55, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Houston Chronicle Edit

Sorry... MSN is giving me troubles again. :(
It turns out they delayed the printing to July 1st now...
I think it will be in the entertainment section maybe, somewhere near their article about the new "Transformers" movie...
(Although I am not 100% sure where)
Thanks again, I really appreciate it. :)
--Jamie 00:41, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Tis no problemo... --M1shawhan 00:45, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Wolfsbane's links Edit

Yeah, I had planned on marking it for deletion when I was done. Did the same with Iceman and Banshee a while ago, but they still exist. Not sure if you guys noticed or not. Cheers. --Blizz79 04:48, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

One quick thing: shouldn't X-Man be either "Nathan" or "Nathanial"? (depending on which his "official" name is) Naming him "Nate Grey" is kinda like naming Beast "Hank McCoy" or Iceman "Bobby Drake", isn't it? Thanks --Blizz79 05:09, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Well, he never seems to be "named" anything. People just started calling him Nate. I just re-read X-Man 1-4, and it doesn't seem he is ever "named". He chooses Grey because his "mother" was a hero, whereas his "father" was a villain. BUt it doesn't seem he is ever officially "named" anything. Even Sinister just called him "Nate" (in these 4 early issues, at least). Someone edited the page so "Real Name" was "Nathan Grey", though. I'd be interested in seeing where that comes from. Marvel.com has it as "Nate", so I guess we should stick with that. --Blizz79 01:53, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Grrr. Edit

All my MSN messages to you are bouncing back!

Featured ArticleEdit

Hey! As you have requested, Silver Surfer (Norrin Radd) is this week's Featured Article! Enjoy! Copycat989 07:33, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

News Edit

Thanks so much for giving it a try. ;)
Here's hoping it catches on!
--Jamie 04:56, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

LOL...I had to hunt that one down. It is a LOT easier than I thought it would be, but I will say - you might want to use the "do not edit" with the <-- --> notes in the template for the date and stuff. I knew not to change it but I think others might try to alter that information... --M1shawhan 05:47, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Excellent point.
I will work on fixing that. :)
--Jamie 16:17, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

VergeldersEdit

Hi Matt this page can be deleted. In the past I had some saving troubles on the Dutch side and I "parked" some pages here. This page was pasted on the wrong database I think. Greets Peter Wildenbeest 07:38, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Thumbnav Edit

Great job on Kali with the thumbnav template!
Looks pretty decent, eh?
--Jamie 21:29, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

I like it a lot! I wish I had been using that since day one, but oh well. One thing I did want to ask was about the disambig template header. Is there any way to make it centered automatically, like I had done on the Kali page? Also, with the header, can we make it a little larger to stretch out on the page? --M1shawhan 21:53, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
It is too bad we don't think up all these template renovations sooner! Check out Wolverine if you haven't already.--Peteparker 18:51, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the help...new user blues Edit

Thank you for your kind comments. I am new at this but I think I am getting the hang of it. It drives me mad, though to see such chaotic image naming. How can I delete an image if I have a better one?
