As one of the few X-Men foes who managed to take out the entire team on his own, "Vincent" was a mutant with the ability to hypnotize with his eyes. He often used his abilities to entertain, joining a circus or performing hypnotic acts on stage, but he was eventually used by a robot version of Magneto to attack the X-Men. The real Magneto eventually ran into Mesmero and almost killed him. Several revenge attacks on different teams left Vincent spending much of his time being sent to and escaping from prisons around the country. While working for Canada's Weapon X program, he found out his abilities were based on his level of self-confidence, and almost lost them completely when his mother died. After gaining them back for a very short time, he lost them completely as a result of M-Day.
