Continued from last issue... Captain Mar-Vel has adapted his Uni-Beam to be a hand held device before going back out into the world and try to learn what he can about the human race. His departure from the hotel brings the attention of the desk clerk who begins to find his recent boarder very suspicious.

Testing out his uni-beam, Mar-Vel finds it satisfactory and attempts to return to his ship. Yon-Rogg attempts to use this as an opportunity to kill Mar-Vel, but the shot instead hits an aircraft. Mar-Vel investigates the crash and finds the dead body of Dr. Walter Lawson. Learning that Lawson was scientist to be stationed at the Cape, Mar-Vel decides to usurp Lawson's reality for the purpose of his mission. After Una transports more breathing gas to Mar-Vel, he decides to go and infiltrate the Cape and learn what he can.

As "Lawson", Mar-Vel is introduced to General Bridges, and the new security chief Carol Danvers. He is shown the Kree Sentry which has been given to them after it was defeated by the Fantastic Four. Yon-Rogg decides to use the Sentry for his own ends to eliminate Mar-Vel, and so has it reactivated. When Mar-Vel learns of this, he dawns his Kree armor and goes to try and stop the Sentry robot from destroying the Cape. As he leaves, his suspicious landlord decides to snoop in his room.

Synopsis for "Human Torch -- Fugitive at Large!"

Reprint of the 4th story from
Sub-Mariner Comics #35

The Human Torch and Toro learn of a startling trend of diamond thefts and rush off to stop one theft operation after another, however as they are trying to stop one robbery, the robbers escape and another robbery begins elsewhere in the city. The flaming heroes are unaware of the fact that the communist spies behind the operation -- who seek to steal the diamonds to fund spy operations -- are tracking their movements via look-outs that are equipped with walkie-talkies.

Getting wise to the fact that somehow the thieves have some sort of trick up to their operation, the Torch and Toro throw off their surveillance by creating flaming decoys of themselves and watching back as the spies fall for the decoys. Spotting the spies getaway car, the Torch and Toro try to stop them, but they get away when the two heroes are struck by the car. But the Torch only lets the spies think that the two heroes were killed in the collision in order to follow them back to their hideout.

The Torch and Toro race after the spies and track them to their hideout within an retirement home. Burning their way inside, the two heroes quickly have their flames extinguished and they are tied up. The spies then inform them that they intend to steal the diamonds on display at a nearby museum. Left alone, the Torch and Toro burn through their ropes. They race to the museum where they are too late to stop the theft, and what's worse, someone has framed the Human Torch for the robbery.

The Torch and Toro melt through their handcuffs and chase after the spies knowing that they are trying to flee the country by boat. They chase them out near the Statue of Liberty and ignite their boat. The spies then flee into the statue and climb to the top. There the Torch confronts the spies who suddenly fall off the torch of the Statue of Liberty. When the Torch and Toro race down to check on the dead bodies they find them strangely on fire. The Torch surmises that it was the statue's torch of freedom that burned the communist spies.

The pair change into Captain America and Bucky and head to Washington D.C. and are asked to go to Nevada. There they are brought to a nuclear testing ground where scientist Jim Slade has developed a new atomic trigger for a nuclear cannon.

Meanwhile, in nearby Las Vegas, Communist spy Arnold Lupoff and his wife Lupa are in the middle of their plot to steal the plans for the atomic trigger, as Lupa has been spending her time posing as Slade's girlfriend to try and learn the secrets. Fearing that the operative known as the Executioner might eliminate them if they fail they decide to try and obtain the plans that night and prepare for Jim Slade's upcoming date with Lupa.

Back at the base, Captain America and Bucky meet with Jim Slade and the scientist talks about his "luck" with his new girlfriend. As he leaves he unknowingly drops a photo of her on the ground. Picking it up for a look, Captain America recognizes Lupa Lupoff as a Communist spy. Both Cap and Bucky then rush off to stop the spies before they can take the plans from Slade.

At a Las Vegas restaurant, Lupa begins trying to pump Slade for information but he refuses to divulge the top secret nature of his work. As Bucky watches from above, Arnold drugs Jim's drink and when he passes out the spy couple carry Slade out of the restaurant and into a car waiting outside. Bucky dives into the roof of the car and Captain America catches up just as the car drives away. Before he can try to catch up with it he is attacked by communist agents and is forced to fight off a gauntlet of various attacks. Captain America soon finds himself caught in the blast of explosives set off by the spies.

Meanwhile, out in the desert the Lupoff couple have tied Jim to a tree and demand that he give them the plans for the atomic trigger or die. He refuses and suddenly Bucky attacks, but the young man is easily subdued and tied to the cactus as well. However, Captain America soon arrives and attacks Arnold, taking him down with a single punch. Suddenly Lupa shoots Arnold in the stomach and reveals that she is the Executioner and announces that he failed at his mission. Lupa then turns the gun on herself having also decreed that she had failed. With the danger passed, Cap unties Jim and Bucky and later the trio return to the atomic base where they witness a test of Jim's invention.

Synopsis for "Invasion"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Sub-Mariner Comics #42

The Sub-Mariner is swimming to the surface of the ocean where he sees a great fog has spread across the surface, and witnesses two ships crashing into each other. Namor comes to their aid using his superior strength to pull the ships back to shore. Meanwhile, an island that is part of the lesser Antilles is attacked by Communist ships using the fog of their own creation to cover themselves from counterattack. When the Sub-Mariner gets the ships to safety he is given a telegram from the US Coast Guard. Rushing to meet with the Coast Guard's directors he learns that Communist agents are using an artificial fog to cover their attacks, and Namor agrees to help combat this problem.

He returns to Atlantis below the Antarctic and has Namora assist him in gathering troops into constructing massive icebergs that they can pilot across the ocean. They then track down the Communist battleships and using high powered fans and the icebergs they create freezing wind that ices over the ships, making their cannons useless. Namor and the Atlanteans then attack, causing some of the ships to sink, and keep their foes occupied long enough for the US Navy to arrive, forcing the Communists to abandon their plot and flee.
