Synopsis for "The Sinister Six"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1The Sinister Six

Having broken out of prison, Dr. Octopus gathers Mysterio, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, the Vulture and Sandman to get revenge against Spider-Man as the Sinister Six. Meanwhile, Spider-Man has once more found that his spider powers have faded and has to exercise more caution getting back home, lest someone take advantage of his lost powers to find out his secret identity.

As Peter wanders the city lost in thought over all the stress caused by his Spider-Man identity, he doesn't go to school. This prompts the school to call his Aunt May. Worried about Peter, she goes to Betty Brant for help, and they, in turn, see if J. Jonah Jameson has seen Peter recently. This makes them a target for the Sinister Six, who have decided to use Betty Brant as bait to lure Spider-Man, and so, they kidnap both Betty and Aunt May.

Peter arrives at the Daily Bugle just in time to see the Vulture delivering a message to Jameson. The Vulture tells him that the Sinister Six have gone to six different locations, and at each location they each have a clue to the whereabouts of Betty and May. While superheroes all over the city try to find Spider-Man, Peter decides that powers or no powers, he's going to save his Aunt May and Betty from his enemies.

At the first location, the local power plant owned by Stark Industries, Peter faces Electro. During the fight, he realizes that his powers have returned. He easily defeats Electro and learns the next location. When Iron Man arrives to offer help, Spider-Man refuses.

His next fight is with Kraven the Hunter, who attacks Spider-Man in Central Park with three tigers. Spider-Man easily fights off the attackers and secures the next clue. Along the way, the Human Torch offers help, but once again, Spider-Man refuses.

His next location is controlled by Mysterio, who sends androids based on the X-Men to attack the wall-crawler. Spider-Man easily defeats the androids and Mysterio. The next clue is set ablaze, but Spider-Man recovers its contents with his web-fluid.

His next battle is against Sandman, sealed in an airless room. Spider-Man defeats Sandman with his superior lung capacity. Next, he battles the Vulture high over the city and defeats him as well, gaining the location of Dr. Octopus, who has been holding Betty and May hostage. May, completely oblivious to her situation, believes they are Octavius' houseguests.

Spider-Man battles Octopus and his mechanical arms. Their fight takes them to a giant fishbowl, where Octopus battles Spider-Man in his "natural habitat." Spider-Man defeats Octopus by filling the tank with his webbing and tangling Octavius up, and he then frees Aunt May and Betty Brant. After returning to his civilian guise, he meets up with the pair. Aunt May remains upset with Peter over his skipping class. Jameson is once more made a fool, when he has to publish a story about how heroic Spider-Man is, and as for the Sinister Six? Forced to share a prison cell, the villains squabble among themselves.

Synopsis for "Face-to-Face with... the Lizard!"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Amazing Spider-Man #6Face-to-Face with... the Lizard!

When reports of a humanoid-lizard (naturally dubbed "The Lizard") come out of Florida, Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson issues a challenge to Spider-Man: Defeat the Lizard. Hearing about this, Peter goes to see what Jameson's intentions are. He learns that Jameson only issued the challenge to sell more papers.

Later, while at the Natural History Museum with his classmates, Peter takes an express interest in the lizard exhibits. When crooks try to rob the museum and take Liz Allan, hostage, Peter slips away and changes into Spider-Man and comes to her rescue. Hearing another report of an attack by the Lizard in Florida, Peter decides to take Jameson's challenge. As Spider-Man, Peter pays Jameson a visit to take him up on his challenge, in the hopes that he'd send Peter Parker to Florida to take pictures of the event. The plot works, however, it backfires ever so slightly: Jameson himself is going to accompany the boy in order to supervise him.

When they arrive in Florida, Peter makes an excuse of needing to buy film for his camera to get away from Jameson. As Spider-Man, Peter checks out his only lead: Curtis Connors, a resident expert on lizards. However, when he arrives at the Connors home, Spider-Man learns from Curt's wife that her husband is the Lizard: He was trying to find a way to allow humans to grow back limbs. Since Connors had lost his arm in the war, he used himself as a guinea pig on the project. While his arm grew back, the side effects of the serum he created caused him to transform into the Lizard.

The Lizard then attacks the Connors home, and Spider-Man defends them. He then works in Connors' lab to create an antidote for the serum, in the hopes that it can change Connors back to normal. Going into the swamp to find the Lizard, he finds him and his army of obedient reptiles in an old castle. Setting up his camera to take pictures, Spider-Man battles the Lizard and eventually slips him the antidote which changes the Lizard back into his human form.

Connors thanks Spider-Man for his help, and they all decide to keep mum about the fact that Connors was the Lizard, as he had no control over what he did while in that form. Returning to a furious Jameson as Peter Parker, when Peter offers him the pictures (which he said he bought off a local) Jameson dismisses them as fakes and tears them up. He then tells Parker that this dud of a trip is coming out of his future pay.

Upon returning to New York, Peter tries his luck getting a date with Liz Allan, which ends with her hanging up on him because she is expecting a call from that dreamy Spider-Man. As a round-up to his adventure to Florida, Peter sends Jameson a mocking letter to the Bugle.

Synopsis for "The Molten Man Regrets...!"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Amazing Spider-Man #35The Molten Man Regrets...!

Molten Man sees Judge Hizzoner and the Judge takes pity on him and lets him go without any punishment since he has agreed to pay for the damage he has caused. Molten Man goes free and shows he has no intentions of going straight. After some planning, he enters into a jewelry store and asks to see the most expensive items for sale. Once they are outside the safe, the owner tries to stop Molten Man but bullets bounce off and the gun is crushed inside his hand. Spider-Man swings around and notices the theft in progress, and not knowing the thief's true identity, is clobbered around and Molten Man escapes. After some deduction, Spidey figures that only Molten Man could hit him that hard and crush a gun in his bare hand.

Spider-Man tracks down Molten Man's old house and follows him with a Spider-Tracer to the same jewelry shop he initially tried to rob. Spider-Man tries to catch him in webbing and the two trade punches back and forth. Molten Man escapes but Spider-Man catches up with him at Raxton's home. Spider-Man grabs a nearby rope and, similar to their last fight, hog-ties Molten Man together and brings proof to the police tying him to the attempted robbery. Peter goes to sell his pictures of Molten Man to J. Jonah Jameson, but finds out that Betty Brant no longer works there. A replacement secretary hands him a self-portrait he gave to Betty signed "To Betty – Forever! Peter", but it ends up in the trash as he realizes both Ned Leeds and her are gone to the west coast and most likely are married.
