History
Clyde Wyncham was the only mutant born in his reality. He developed amazing reality-altering powers. When he was young he brought his father back to life, which so terrified his mother that she struck him on the head with a candlestick, giving him permanent brain damage. He went to live in an asylum, where he would read comic books. One day, the nurses took his comics away so he responded by bringing the Marvel characters to his reality. Eventually, the government covered everything up and the Marvel characters offered to take him back to their reality.
Reed Richards built him a giant cybernetic helmet that would give him an eternity of pleasant dreams and keep him out of trouble. One day, Reed's enemies all teamed up and attacked him. In the fight, Clyde was freed with his mind fully restored. So he killed all the villains around him, developing a taste for slaughter. Clyde conquered time and space, and spent a billion years exploring all reality, until he became the Marquis of Death. Then he traveled back and forth through time, destroying worlds and committing terrible acts.
At one point, he found a young Dr. Doom and taught him the ways of villainy.
Returning to Earth-616 many years later with a new apprentice, he expressed his disappointment with Doom's many failure by visciously attacking him and taking his place. Then he lauched an attack on the Fantastic Four. He told Reed the truth of his origin and offered him the opportunity to kill the comatose Clyde Wyncham before he awakens to become the Marquis of Death. Reed refuses, saying that the comatose Clyde is innocent of the Marquis' crimes.
Powers and Abilities
Powers
The Marquis has the power to travel between realities and destroy just about everything. He was even able to destroy an alternate version of the Sun with a wave of his hand. He was easily able to burn Victor Von Doom alive, despite the magical and technological protections in Doom's armor. He killed an alternate reality Watcher. Reed Richards claimed that energies that killed the Watcher came from an off-the-scale power source and the residue was extraterrestrial in origin.
