History

Mirage was the daughter of Oblivion, who created her out of himself to appease his own loneliness.[2] To escape her father, Mirage used Bounce-Boxes to travel through time and space.[1]

Disguised as Marge Smith, she lived with her "family" (her creations) next door to Bobby Drake's parents. Bobby encountered her when he went home for his dad's retirement party and was attracted to her; however, Oblivion sent his minions White Light and Idiot to retrieve her. Marge's house was destroyed in the fight and she disappeared.[3]

She retreated to 1892, England as Margaret, but her "brother" accidentally left behind one of their Bounce-Boxes. This sent Bobby back in time to meet his own parents when they were young. Another one of Oblivion's minions, Kali, was tracking the Bounce-Boxes and attacked him by mistake. Mirage diverted Kali's attention but could not save Bobby's father, preventing Bobby's birth.[1]

As Bobby ceased to exist, he went to Oblivion, who tasked him to retrieve his daughter. Marge used Bobby's idea of a perfect town to create one and revealed to Bobby that she was in love with him. However, she was mentally troubled from Oblivion and almost killed Bobby. She swore vengeance against her father but this accidentally caused her to return home.[4]

Oblivion explained to Mirage that they she was him and he was her. Iceman recovered and struck Oblivion down. At this moment, Mirage realized the truth and accepted Oblivion. She was an echo of Oblivion's self and her defiance was all part of his elaborate plan to give meaning to her love of him, which awakened upon seeing his apparent defeat, as love is nothing without hate. Despite achieving his daughter's love, Oblivion remained unfulfilled. He consumed Iceman, but to his surprise, Bobby resisted Oblivion and re-emerged. Oblivion gained a new understanding of love and "glimpsed a power that transcends and empowers both Oblivion and [...] reality." After sending Bobby home, Oblivion merged with Mirage and the two became one once more.[5]
