Malekith gained Gungnir and bent it to it's will and used it's magic to turn the Asgardians to stone. He and the Dark Elves conquered Asgard and allied with the Frost Giants, who were to claim the Asgardians for themselves. Malekith was confronted by the Avengers and Storm freed the Asgardians. The Dark Elves and Frost Giants confronted the Avengers while Malekith escaped.[1]
