Malcolm Powder was a high school student in Manhattan, New York City, and a fan of Jessica Jones. When he learned that she ran Alias Investigations out of a Manhattan office, he visited her at work, letting himself into the office and answering her phone before being thrown out by Jones.[1]

He continued to visit Jones at work, begging her for a job and boasting an encyclopedic knowledge of superhero activity in New York City. Jones finally relented, agreeing to hire him on a part-time basis if he could find information regarding the whereabouts of the missing Mattie Franklin. Malcolm found a classmate whose brother turned out to be keeping Franklin hostage, allowing Jones to rescue the girl.[2]
