History
Lola is a red Chevrolet Corvette belonging to S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson. It has been converted using advanced Stark Industries technology to become a S.H.I.E.L.D. Flying Car. After recruiting Skye to his S.H.I.E.L.D. team, he demonstrated Lola's flight capabilities.[1]
Coulson and Grant Ward took Lola in their search for Project Centipede.[2]
Coulson and Melinda May took Lola to Mexico City in search of Richard Lumley for answers about Skye's past. When Lumley tried to flee, Coulson transformed Lola into hover mode, prompting Lumley to realize they're with S.H.I.E.L.D.[3]
When Ward was revealed to be a Hydra double-agent and took over the Bus, Deathlok, Coulson, and Skye attempted to flee in Lola. They activated Lola's hidden machine guns hidden behind the headlights, giving them cover fire before driving out of the cargo bay while the Bus was in mid-flight. As they fell out of the sky, Lola's engines failed to ignite until the last second, saving the agents from a crash-landing.[4]
Alternate Reality Versions[]
Prime Marvel Universe (Earth-616)[]
In this reality, Lola stands for "Low-Orbit Liftoff Automobile," and it was potentially named in such way after Phil Coulson's ex-fiancée Lola Daniels.[5] The car was first seen when Coulson helped Deadpool and fellow Agent Adsit escape from criminals who were trying to kill Deadpool for the price put on his head by traitor Agent Gorman, and track Gorman down.[6]
Marvel Avengers Academy (Earth-TRN562)[]
In this reality, Lola belongs to agent Phil Coulson as well.[7]
LEGO Universe (Earth-13122)[]
In this reality, Lola belongs to agent Phil Coulson as well.[8][9] Lola was originally Coulson's ordinary car, but after a mission by Coulson in the desert, he asked for upgrades to be added to it, such as flight capability.[8] During Kang's Invasion, Lola would be used in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s simulator from Chronopolis.[9]
Heroes Reborn (Earth-21798)[]
In this reality, Lola was a presidential limousine used by President Phil Coulson. He used it to travel to Wakanda to stop the Avengers from ruining his new reality. While Coulson was battling Captain America, the vehicle was clipped by USAF pilot Carol Danvers to help Rogers. The vehicle eventually crashed and was burned up in an ensuing fire.[10]
Notes
- It becomes a running gag in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to say, "Don't touch Lola."
Trivia
- The car's California license plate initially read "681 PCE". A couple of appearances later, we see it has been changed to "381 PCE".
- In Earth-13122, Coulson made a calendar with photos of Lola, among them was a selfie of Coulson with Hulk.
