Juan Carlos Valencia was a Colombian cartel boss. One day, his daugther Juliana informed him that it was discovered she had a rare type of incurable cancer. A year after he started looking for a cure, Juan Carlos spent most of his fortune in an auction for a kit of Extremis sold by A.I.M., hoping to program it solely to return Juliana to health. In the process, he tested Extremis another terminally-ill subject, and they died.
As soon as he was informed that Iron Man was looking for the Extremis kits sold by A.I.M., Valencia hired the criminals Living Laser, Vibro and Firebrand to protect the kit in case Iron Man came for it. The hero infiltrated the mansion wearing a Stealth Armor, but blew his cover when he woke up Juliana, thinking she was an unwilling test subject, and she called the guards.
Juan Carlos intercepted the fight between Iron Man to explain the situation, and that he only wanted his daugther's survival. Stark agreed to help him reconfigure Extremis to reduce its roughness and thus guarantee Juliana's survival, but ensured that Juan Carlos was going to be arrested.[1]
