HistoryEdit

Jonathan "Jack" Murdock was a professional boxer and was the husband of Maggie Murdock and was the father of Matt Murdock who became the sightless crimefighter Daredevil. Jack Murdock's wife was believed to have died while Matt Murdock was at a young age (when in reality she left him and Matt to become a nun. Jack Murdock consistently urged his young son to study hard and make something of himself. He also made Matt Murdock not to fight other kids in the neighborhood^[1]. On one occasion when Jack had learned that Matt was fighting other neighborhood kids, Jack physically assaulted young Matt (quickly regretting his action as soon as he made it and apoligizing to his son for his mistake) but he still didn't want matt to fight, he wanted his son to make something of himself and be a better person than he was.

Even though young Murdock was blinded in an accident, Matt kept his promise. Using Braille technology and studying diligently, Matt graduated college and became a law student at Columbhia. At this time Jack Murdock was an aging prize fighter having difficulty getting matches that paid money to support him and Matt^[1]. He once wrestled a facical match as the masked "Red Devil" because of his finanacial dire stratights. However, afterwards Jack felt that he had undignified himself and vowed never to do so again.

Shortly therafter, with the help of the notorious promoter Roscoe Sweeney aka "The Fixer" Jack landed a big fight. Sweeney was a disreputable character who many boxers, previously including Jack Murdock, had steered clear of. Again, due to his lack of finances, Jack signed with Sweeney. Much to his shock, the Fixer soon asked Jack Murdock to "take a dive" and lose this match on purpose. Perhaps remembering his shame of his performance as "Red Devil", Jack refused and fought the "fight of his career" and won. As revenge, Sweeney had his men beat Jack Murdock to death when he walked out of the building shortly after the match^[1].

• Matt Murdock became Daredevil shortly after his father's death and quickly took revenge on the Fixer and his men. Since that time, he has ofter remembered, hallucinated, and dreamed of his father and their time together.
  

TriviaEdit

In the 2003 movie Daredevil; Jack Murdock was played by actor David Keith. Unlike his Earth-616 counterpart, his time of death took place shortly after Matt became blind instead of when Matt was in law school.
