HistoryEdit

Quote1.png I feel there's something between us, you and I. I hope that doesn't sound odd. You baffle me. I've been in the center of the city for my entire life. I have met drug dealers and kings and everything in between. But I have never met anyone like you. You're... you're Spider-Man. Quote2.png
-- J. Jonah Jameson

Origins

In Earth-1610, J. Jonah Jameson is essentially the same character, although younger in appearance. Jonah had a son, John, who was an astronaut, was killed while on a mission. He considers his son a "true hero", which makes him predispose to dislike Spider-Man. He hires Peter Parker as the Daily Bugles's webmaster after he displayed his expertise right after Jonah rejects his photographs of Spider-Man.

Jameson is also somewhat kinder and more reasonable than his mainstream counterpart. He does not always misprint Spider-Man's masked escapades (the first time he did this, he inspired "Spider-Man Christmas"), gave Peter his job back once Aunt May reasoned with him, and was willing to give Peter a raise when she was hospitalized.

Ultimatum

During the Ultimatum story line, Jameson was in the Daily Bugle building when Magneto's Ultimatum Wave hit New York city. As he looks out of his window, he sees Spider-Man rescuing civilians from the flood.

In the aftermath, Jameson returns to the Daily Bugle, where he tells Ben Urich that he believes that his wife died as his house was only four stories tall. He tells Urich that he does not plan to start over, because the newspaper was going to fold within a year. After looking through many stories that he had rejected over the years because they depicted Spider-Man in a positive light, Urich tells him that CNN has reported the hero dead.

Discovering Spider-Man's Identity

In the wake of Ultimatum, Jameson drops his vendetta against Spider-Man completely. Feeling ashamed and regretful of his previous smear campaign, Jameson promises to dedicate his life to showing what a true hero Spider-Man really is.

Eventually, Jameson rebuilds the Bugle, now a web-only service. Jameson is later impersonated by the Chameleon, who attacks Peter and steals his identity. Peter wakes tied up with Jameson, who is suspicious of why the Chameleon would attack him. It is then that Jameson realizes that Peter Parker and Spider-Man are one in the same. Jameson is shot by Camellia under the orders of the Chameleon, her partner. Thanks to the help of Iceman and the Human Torch, he and Peter are able to escape from the villainous duo. Jameson is taken to a hospital, where he mumbles Peter's name to himself.

He is visited by Urich and Joseph Robertson, to whom he reveals the fact that he now knows Spider-Man's true identity, but refuses to reveal who he is. After being discharged from the hospital, Jameson gives Peter the job of being the programer of the newspaper's web site, and he pays for Peter's college tuition as a reward for saving his life.[1]

When Peter Parker died at the hands of Norman Osborn, the Green Goblin, Jameson wrote his obituary and later attended his funeral.
