HistoryEdit

John Allerdyce, also known a Pyro, is a mutant with the ability cause any fire, however small, to grow in size and intensity and project it. He was a student at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

He was a friend of his classmates Bobby Drake and Rogue. Following an attack on the school by William Stryker the three of them escaped with Wolverine and retreated to Drake's family home in suburban Boston. Iceman's disgruntled brother called the police, telling them that mutants were holding his family hostage. The police arrived and drew their weapons on Wolverine and his younger companions. A police officer mistook Wolverine's claws for knives and ordered him to drop them. When Wolverine tried to explain and sheathed his claws, the officer shot Wolverine in the head. Pyro became enraged and attacked the officers and destroyed their cars. Just before his attack could turn deadly, Rogue grabbed hold of him with her bare hand. Pyro fell to the ground, drained of his powers, which Rogue then used to put the fires out.

Ultimately, Pyro was tempted away from Xavier's influence by Magneto, who observed the young man's ambition and the strength of his powers. Pyro followed Magneto and the shapeshifting Mystique as they escaped from Alkali Lake and joined Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants

He attended the gathering an abandoned church where the Brotherhood recruited the Omega Gang. He later defended Magneto when Quill said that he was just a man in a cape.

Pyro was with Magneto when the Brotherhood attempted to free Mystique from her mobile prison. When Mystique took a cure dart for Magneto he shot a stream of fire so powerful that it left behind no remains of the man who had fired the dart.

He later had a brief confrontation with his former friend Bobby Drake a.k.a. Iceman outside a medical center that was housing cure injections for mutants. After Bobby backed down Pyro blew up the center.

At Alcatraz Island, he torched cars that Magneto threw. Pyro fought Iceman and briefly gained the upper hand, but Iceman defeated him. It is unknown if Pyro survived Alcatraz but he most likely did.

NotesEdit

  • Pyro had a brief cameo in X-Men, played by Alexander Burton, where he formed a fireball behind his back before Iceman froze it with his powers. In the sequel, X2: X-Men United, Pyro was played by Aaron Stanford and his role was greatly expanded.
  • In X2 Pyro is shown examining a series of Drake family photos with an expression of envy; the commentary hints that it is because he comes from a dysfunctional home.
  • Pyro's fate is unknown, although the novelization describes Drake carrying him to safety as the facility around them collapses. His loyalty to Magneto is also firmly established, as he remarks that if Magneto asked it of him, He'd kill Professor Xavier for him.

TriviaEdit

  • Pyro is hinted to have had a tragic past shown when he looks at Bobby's family photos.
  • Pyro has wrist flamethrowers in the third movie as opposed to his zippo lighter he has in X2 or the flamethrower he wears in the comics. This was probably done for one or two reasons. His Zippo is a major disadvantage in any battle as he would have to take it out ignite a flame and from there utilize his powers.
  • Pyro has grown considerably in his control in power over his abilities. As in X2 he is shown throwing fireballs and "streamers" that even though they make contact with police officers does nothing to actually harm them. It only burns them. In X3 his fire seems to have grown more powerful, examples include when he sends a stream of fire, that lasts about two seconds, at an officer that disentegrates the officer. Another is when he sends a fireball at a medical clinic and even though he sends it through only one window, the fire basically explodes and breaks out every window that is shown. Even traveling back through the window. In the novel Iceman almost drains himself trying to put out the flames and the novel also describes the building as an inferno almost to the point of melting. Also during the fight with Iceman towards the end Pyro gains the upperhand very quickly and his expression is more relaxed then Iceman's. Hinting that he obviously wasn't probably using the full extent of his power or if he was he wasn't straining against Bobby's best. Iceman seems to be straining against the fire but Pyro starts to actually smile when he thought he had Iceman beat.
