Jean Grey was a friend and teammate of Mimic. Both Mimic and Wolverine had a crush on her, and while Mimic was serving with the Defenders, Jean died when she became Phoenix. Mimic was devastated and became good friends with Wolverine due to their shared feelings for Jean and a passion for beer and singing.
