When the real Jake Olson was killed, Marnot used the opportunity to craft Thor a new mortal identity to help hide him from the Dark Gods. Grafting the mortal form of Jake Olson to Thor, Marnot claimed that Jake was a good person who died because of Thor's inability to save him. When living the life of Jake, he confused quite a few people, who saw dramatic changes in his personality. Chief among these was Jake's E.M.T. partner Demitrius Collins, who was an undercover police officer investigating Jake for pharmacy robberies at the hospital. It turns out that the real Jake Olson was a drug dealer and thief, who had been using Hannah Fairmont to gain access to the hospital pharmacy to steal drugs from there. When the spirit of Jake Olson was returned to life by Loki, he was used as a pawn by Loki to frame Thor in his guise of Jake Olson. Ultimately, the two confronted each other while the real Jake was attempting to murder a store clerk, the whole scene being caught on the security camera. Enraged at being thwarted, Loki took possession of Jake Olson's body, causing the real Jake to "die" again. Odin entrapped Loki's spirit inside the body, and the entire mess was explained to the police as the real Jake being "Loren Olson", Jake's twin brother.

Later, Jake was seperated from Thor physically by Odin. This ultimately turned out to be a mistake, because this also removed the human aspect from Thor, who went on to create an alternate reality called "The Reigning". Jake Olson openly opposed Thor's increasing involvement in world affairs. During the Consortium of Nation's assault on Asgard, Jake grabbed Mjolnir before it could return to Thor, and began attacking Thor. Increasingly angered at the world opposing what he only saw as him trying to help them, Thor lashed out with the Odinpower, killing Jake Olson, and thereby killing his own humanity.
