Jack Taggert was the pilot of an experimental suit created with Stark technology in the Project: Firepower, a program created by Edwin Cord sponsored by the government to create a new generation of soldiers and control rogue super-humans.

After a easy test of the suit in Arizona, Firepower battled a rouge Iron Man, having the perfect opportunity to what he trained for. Iron Man, knowing he was using Stark tech, fired everything at him, but did not succed. After Firepower managed to attack Iron Man by surprise, Tony tried to render Firepower's armor useless by using a negator pack, but failed.

An almost defeated Iron Man returned to a Stark Enterprises helicopter near the scene, and left his almost destroyed armor out of there, Firepower destroyed it with a Terminax missile, apparently killing Iron Man. The following days, Firepower became Cord's henchmen, threatening the Marsten Manufacturing so they don't accept Stark's bid, he even attacked Tony and his workers. Tony decided to take down Taggert with his own hands, then he created a new Iron Man armor.

Firepower tried to kill Iron Man by setting a Terminax missile that was stuck in his suit to detonate in thirty seconds, so Iron Man would try to prevent it and die. Tony used an Electro Magnetic Pulse to slow down the countdown, and managed to take Taggert out of the armor before it exploded.

Years later, Jack Taggert in a new armor was used by Mandarin in an army of Iron Man villains to take down the armored hero.
