Beast[src]

History

Hank McCoy was one of Professor X's first students, the X-Men. His mutant powers come from a mutation his father suffered in his genes while working in a nuclear power plant, and unlike most mutants, Hank's abilities appeared already as a baby. He then, via numerous experiments, evolved from his ape-like limbs to a feline appearance totally covered in fur.

He was one of the many superheroes who joined S.H.I.E.L.D.'s alliance against villains after a mysterious Pulse hit the Earth and left a material called Isotope-8, desired by both heroes and villains.[1]

As Pestilence

Age of Apocalypse[]

During a Test Subject outbreak led by Sugar-Man, Beast was kidnapped by Avalanche, who had become an ally of Mr. Sinister. After a failed attempt by the Alliance to rescue Beast, in which Rogue was also abducted, he was detected in London. A team led by Cable, Wolverine, Ms. Marvel, Iceman, Angel, and Captain Britain tried to find him, but after facing Selene, they discovered Mr. Sinister had transformed Hank into Pestilence, one of the Horsemen of Apocalypse, along with War (X-23), Famine (Rogue), and Death (Iceman). The four Horsmen headed to different locations to spread chaos, and Professor X located Beast in London once more.

Pestilence's actions and Apocalypse's mutant uprising attracted the attention of Sentinels, whom he fought before being confronted by Wolverine. He was defeated, but fleed the scene as Apocalypse called him and the rest of the Horsemen.

Apocalypse gathered his Horsemen in New York City, where they fought and were defeated by the Alliance. Apocalypse escaped, but the defeated Horsemen were brought back to the Helicarrier in order to treat them for their transformations.[1]
