When the Fantastic Four and the Avengers sacrificed their lives to destroy Onslaught, Franklin Richards, the son of the FF's Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman subconsciously created a pocket universe to save their lives. There they spent an entire year reliving living new lives "reborn" into a reality where they recently gained their abilities that vaguely mirror how they gained their powers originally.

In this new universe, Franklin created populated universe, including recreations of many of these heroes allies and foes. Among these creations was one based on Henry Gyrich the government agent once associated with the Avengers.

On Counter-Earth, Henry Gyrich would be selected to be the government liaison for the newly formed Avengers. He would be a harsh critic of the group, thinking that all super-humans need strict controls. When the team invited Thor into their ranks, Gyrich was furious over the decision.

When the Hulk would attack Avengers Island causing a rupture in the gamma core, Gyrich would be called to task by Nick Fury. When Gyrich failed to six the problem Fury would tell him that he would "get his", and had presumably been fired. However, this would be a moot point as after the Avengers Island fiasco, the Avengers would break off from government control.
