History

The first White Tiger (Hector Ayala) was created by writer Bill Mantlo and artist George Pérez in the black and white Marvel magazine, Deadly Hands of Kung Fu in 1975.

Born in Puerto Rico, Ayala attended college at Empire State University in New York City. It was here that he found the tiger amulets that had been discarded by the Sons of the Tiger. By wearing all three of the Jade Tiger amulets, Ayala discovered that he could transform into the superhuman White Tiger. In this form, Ayala possessed enhanced strenth and almost superhuman ability in the martial arts. The White Tiger fought foes such as the Corporation crime cartel, learning his brother was a member, and teamed with such heroes as Daredevil, Shang-Chi, the Human Fly and Spider-Man.

After many years of fighting crime and nearly being killed, having his secret identity publicly exposed by the villainous Lightmaster and becoming psychologically and physically addicted to the tiger amulets, Ayala retired. But after a while, the call to don the amulets and fight evil became too strong and Hector once again became the White Tiger. Soon after, Hector was framed for murder and convicted despite the efforts of his lawyer, Matt Murdock (Daredevil). Ayala was shot dead trying to escape, shortly before evidence emerged that belatedly proved his innocence.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

With the amulets, Ayala's strength, speed, stamina, agility, dexterity, reflexes, reaction time, coordination, balance, and endurance were all enhanced. The amulet also conferred upon him the experience and abilities of a master martial artist.

Weaknesses

Ayala only possessed his enhanced abilities when wearing all three mystical amulets.
