Originally a master programmer and engineer, the man that would become known as Ghost was hired by Omnisapient Systems. Working diligently, he made innovation after innovation, sacrificing his personal life for the sake of his company. Feeling burned out, he took time off, but after being contacted by a coworker, he found himself reinvigorated, allowing him to finish the company's biggest project: processors that would phase when heated up, allowing them to run indefinitely, dubbed "ghost-tech" by his bosses. Following this, the woman, Shana, was killed in an explosion. Grieving her death, Ghost hooked himself into the company's network using his own "ghost-tech", existing partially inside the computers. This allowed him to see security footage implicating his bosses in the death of Shana and the revelation that she'd been paid to date him. Learning of his access to this footage, his bosses sent their hitman to create a mysterious explosion to kill the Ghost. Hooked into his "ghost-tech" at the time, he survived the blast, but was permanently altered as a result. Hunting down his bosses, he killed each in turn, along with the hitman who had been responsible for Shana's death and his near-death. From this point on, he became an enemy of corporations and began seeing conspiracies in everything.
Many thought the Ghost was only a myth spread around the hacker culture and conspiracy theorists. He has been said to be a disgruntled former executive, or an engineer gone insane. As many companies found out, the Ghost is very real. He is a dangerous individual who will sabotage companies and steal secrets because he enjoys it. The money he makes goes into supplies.
Roxxon felt he was too much of a liability and let him go. They secretly sent hired Spymaster to kill him. However, Ghost gave Spymaster one of his intangibility circuits then turned it off while Spymaster was partially through a wall, graphically killing him.
The Ghost returned with improved stealth to destroy a beta particle generator Stark had designed. However, the sheer heat of the generator began to damage both Iron Man and Ghost. The Ghost fled by melting through floors. With only melted remains of a costume, it was assumed he perished
The Ghost was responsible for the "YOUDAMAN" e-mail virus, which contained a signal to detonate remote bombs. He allied himself with AIM looking to cause worldwide chaos. He was defeated when Iron Man adapted his force field to circumvent his intangibility and then hurled him into MODOK.
When Tony Stark had become a vegetable, Ghost was hired by Madame Masque to kill him, but was later stopped by Rhodey Rhodes. During the Siege of Asgard, Ghost and the other Thunderbolts were defeated and arrested (except Paladin and Ant-Man). At the beginning of the Heroic Age, Ghost became a member of the new Thunderbolts team.
